TV Show Review: Gilmore Girls Episode 2, Season One – The Lorelais’ First Day At Chilton

Gilmore Girls Fuzzy Clock Didn't Pur Episode 2 Season 1 Screenshot

"It's fuzzy... it purs".... The alarm clock didn't pur on time... now Rory is late for school!

This second episode of Gilmore Girls (Season 1) is an absolutely fantastic episode. As funny and great as the Gilmore Girls Pilot Episode was, I think this episode is even better. It is absolutely packed to the gills with hilarious and funny moments throughout the entire episode.

Here we get introduced to Rory’s new school… the advanced, private, prestigious preparatory High School Chilton… which will be the stepping stone to getting into Harvard College. However the amazement of starting off Rory’s new life the “right way” takes a turn for the worst when Lorelai (her mom) oversleeps. Making matters worse, “laundry day” was never fulfilled and thus Lorelai is forced to wear her only good clothes… an outfit that makes her look like “that chick from The Dukes of Hazzard” :P Hilarity, naturally, ensues.

Gilmore Girls Dukes of Hazzard Screenshot

"*sighs* Laundry Day"... Poor Lorelai, the day just keeps getting better and better! "I look like that chick from the Dukes of Hazzard!"

This episode introduces us to a lot of new characters. We have Hanlon Charleston (i.e. “Headmaster Charleston”, the principle guy who runs the school), we meet Jackson, Sookie’s vegetable delivery boy, and we meet three principle new female characters; those who play the “mean girls” clique at Rory’s school, they are: Madeline, Louise and Paris… We also meet another potential future love interest for Rory, a boy bully named “Triston”. Further love boils in the air as well for Lorelai from a new guy who gets a bit of screen time, a fellow named Ian Jack (blink and you’ll miss his name) who is a “Chilton Dad”…. he’s gonna have to work hard if he wants at Lorelai, who doesn’t want to disrupt Rory’s new school life by dating someone who has a student there. Ian helps her and Rory find their way to the Principle’s office when they get lost.

Gilmore Girls Mean Girls Screenshot (Paris, Madeline, Louise) and Rory in Episode 1 (Season 1)

Dem piercing eyes... The mean girls trio of (from left) Paris, Madeline, and Louise.

This episode gives a lot more screen time to Emily (Rory’s grandma) as well, and we get some interesting conversations between her and Lorelai; as Emily tries to buy her way into her granddaughters heart… in a manner that pushes Lorelai’s buttons.

We’re also introduced to a few of the neighbors, including Babette and Mory, a strange cat-lady and her even stranger shades-wearing husband. Babbette: “They kicked the gnome.” Loreleigh: “They… what?” Babette: “They kicked the gnome! Right in the head!” Mory: “That’s just not cool.” Babbette: “I’d be careful with these ones Lorelaigh. Gnome kicking says a lot about a man’s character.” Classic stuff.

Babette and Mory from Gilmore Girls Gnome Kicking in Episode 1 (Season 1)

...Cool cats Babbette (left) and Mory (right) explaining how Gnome kicking says a lot about a man's character to Lorelai. Mory: "That's just not cool."

Another character introduced is Kirk, who plays the village “worker guy” in various odd roles…. in this introductory episode he is known as “Mick” and plays the cable company guy who magically appears at Lorelai’s house to instal the “DSL” that Lorelai never ordered (orchestrated by Emily of course). He will end up becoming a recurring character and eventually turn into a loveable oddball villager and one of the shows stars named “Kirk”. Who will provide much of the shows weird comedy relief.

The principle story scenes in this episode though are mostly between Rory and Paris. Paris rolls with two other girls who are the elitist, popular, powerful girls at the school. Louise is the sexy, innuendo-loving Marilyn Monroe-type, Louise is the glamorous yet ditzy one, and Paris is the smart, mean, not-as-pretty, do-anything-to-succeed leader of the bunch. The cliche of the “mean girls” seems totally dumb on its face and you’ll quickly roll your eyes, but these characters are acted extremely well; and the annoyance of the cliche dissipates as we start seeing them in action and watching them interact with Rory. On the Cutting Room Floor: Games I’ve Yet to Play – EarthBound

Ness and King EarthBound Art

Ness and his dog King in front of his mom's house in Onett (opening scene of EarthBound).

If you know me, you know that there are TONS AND TONS of videogames I’ve never played. Sadly, although I consider myself to be a “hardcore” gamer, I really am not compared to most “gamers”. The reason for that is because, unlike other more productive people, I can never seem to find the time to play games. Period.

In fact, my most played system as of late has been my Nintendo 3DS, and that’s simply because it is the easiest system to play when I’m sitting on the throne…. And cause I’m a hardcore Nintendo fanboy to boot.

So I thought it would be fun to go through some of the games I’d LOVE to play and still plan on playing someday, but never have up to this point and why I want to play them. Maybe I’ll get to them at some point, and hopefully soon; but maybe not. We’ll see. Enjoy.

EPISODE #1 – EARTHBOUND
Released: November 1995 (USA), August 27, 1994 (Japan)
System: Super Nintendo
Re-Released: As part of Mother I&II Collection for Game Boy Advance (Japan-only)
Genre: RPG
Developed By: Nintendo, Ape, HAL Laboratory
Publisher: Nintendo
Is There A Digital Version?: Not legally, ROM & Emulator for play on the PC are easy to find however. It has never been officially re-released.

EarthBound SNES Cart

The elusive EarthBound (Mother 2) cartridge... worth lots of money these days.

Why EarthBound?

EarthBound is one of those cult-classic videogames that literally everyone should play… regardless of whether you like Japanese Role-Playing Games or not. Despite what the title says and the premise of this “On the Cutting Room Floor” series, EarthBound is actually a game I have played through MULTIPLE times. However it remains on the cutting room floor for me because I have NEVER finished it.

Unlike many others, I actually own a SNES EarthBound cart (along with the box) that I bought for $15 in 1998 at Blockbuster. Back then I was pissed because I assumed the big box meant it came with the Strategy Guide/Instruction Book pictured on the front of the box… but it was not meant to be as the box didn’t contain that guide. Believe it or not, me in my naive-to-the-future-worth-of-the-epic-game-he-held-in-his-hands youth ALMOST took the game back. I was literally about to hightail it back to the store and return it because I was so disappointed at not having the book. Even back in those days, my early teen years, I had that collector’s streak pumping through my veins, and I wanted my games to be complete with the box AND instructions.

EarthBound Battle Screenshot - Territorial Oak

A typical EarthBound battle looks like this.... that's the dreaded Territorial Oak enemy! *shivers*

Thankfully, I wisely kept the game, figuring that it would be really fun and cool to play (as I had read in gaming magazines) and I’d just have to do without the instruction book. Wise choice young grasshopper me, wise choice!

EarthBound is one of the most unique games you will ever play. It has a self-deprecating, breaking-the-fourth-wall streak running throughout that makes the writing extremely laugh-out-loud funny and more witty and interesting than most games… certainly than most RPGs of the day. The game is a typical JRPG, with turn-based battles (seen in the first person perspective, and menu-driven), a focus on talking to every villager you encounter, and an epic quest, but the modern America setting of the game is what made EarthBound really stand out.

EarthBound Onett Gameplay

A typical screenshot of talking to villagers in EarthBound's first town of Onett.

EarthBound is not a fantasy game, it is a literal modern-day adventure of four kids spelunking through the oddest of occurrences; crashing meteors, alien visitors, zombie apocalypse, roadrunning jazz bands, haunted malls, color-blue-worshiping cults… it’s actually a sci-fi game in reality, although the science fiction aspect doesn’t really override the rest of the tale due to the fact that the game generally stays in a modern-day, city setting throughout. It is the worlds you explore in EarthBound however, the cities, that play as much a role in the game as anything else. Each city, Onette, Twoson, Threed, Fourside, is like a character in itself because of the unique themes of each.

Overall, EarthBound is arguably the game I want to MOST FINISH of all the games I have. Sadly, I started on the game many, many times using my SNES cartridge, but the cart has ALWAYS deleted my saved games from the beginning. It’s been an eternal heartbreaker. I had resisted pirating the game (which in my case is legal because I own the original cart) for the longest time in the hope that Nintendo would re-release a digital version… but they never did.

EarthBound City of Onett

A JRPG with city buildings, hamburgers, stop signs and streets? Believe it.

So last year I finally broke down and downloaded the ROM and an emulator, and finally got to experience the game without the threat of my save file being erased…. I tried ONE LAST TIME to play it on the actual SNES… but somehow something always ends up happening that causes the game to freeze (accidentally bumping the system, accidentally moving the powercord… one time our freakin’ cat jumped on it and that was that) so that was the last straw for me and I went the route most EarthBound fans had long-taken; the route of a pirate. I still prefer to play games with a controller (THE controller) so I’m not a fan of the keyboard controls, but having new features like the ability to speed up time or save anywhere is definitely welcome.

Ness Talks To Sister In EarthBound

EarthBound has such a charming, simple look to it. This is Ness' sister's room.

Hopefully Nintendo will re-release the game soon for the 3DS eShop, can you imagine how much of a killer-app it’d be? And while they’re at it they should flatout REMAKE the game and all-three Mother titles and release it for 3DS, Wii or Wii U… the Western world never got the original EarthBound, called Mother in Japan, or the Japan-only sequel to EarthBound called Mother 3 for Game Boy Advance, which is criminal. Of course, illegally, an English version of “EarthBound Zero” for NES via emulator exists, as does English ROM’s of Mother 3…. both of which I own.

One of these days soon I’ll actually sit down and record myself playing through the whole game. Last time I stopped simply cause I got sidetracked, but with my new site here that is SUPPOSED to be focused on watching me play games… I definitely intend on allowing you to watch me play it.

Here is a look at EarthBound in action! Alongside the awesome intro.

Song Video of the Day – Four Wall Blackmail by Dead Poetic

Dead Poetic Four Wall Blackmail Art

This album is absolutely fantastic beginning to end. BUY IT!

Four Wall Blackmail by Dead Poetic is the titletrack of their debut majorlabel album on Solid State Records, released in 2002.

Sometimes the most somber, melancholy music is the most beautiful; and this extremely sad, depressing song from emo rockers “Dead Poetic” is exactly that… and it is easily my favorite song from their debut album and by far one of the most heartgripping and powerful songs I’ve ever heard. The lyrics cut you like a knife, and pull on the heartstrings in a very forceful way… which also causes the listener to really reflect on themselves, their lives and their mistakes. The mixture of clean sung vocals along with screamed vocals only adds to the dynamism of this incredible piece. Enjoy.

Dead Poetic Four Wall Blackmail Song Lyrics

These four walls have seen the worst of me…
They’re bleeding confession
But they’ll NEVER speak.

These four walls have seen the life I truly lead…
They’re crying DEPRESSION
They’re weak in the knees…

RIGHT ON THE FLOOR
RIGHT ON THE FLOOR

RIGHT ON THE FLOOR
RIGHT ON THE FLOOR

Please walls…
Stay quiet…
Reputation… is on the line…
And please God…
Stay quiet…
Don’t let them know you’re watching me DIE….

Falling down…
The waves are crashing in on me again!
Falling down…
The walls are closing in on me again!
Falling down…
The waves are crashing in on me again!
Falling down…
I feel the weight, I feel the weight again!

And if you open up your heart you’ll see…
I’m only human
Let me be me….
And if you open up your heart you’ll see…
This wasn’t my intent
I’m sorry.
I’m sorry…

RIGHT ON THE FLOOR
RIGHT ON THE FLOOR
RIGHT ON THE FLOOR
RIGHT ON THE FLOOR

Please walls…
Stay quiet…
Reputation… is on the line…
And please God…
Stay quiet…
Don’t let them know you’re watching me DIE….

Falling down…
The waves are crashing over me again!
Falling down…
The walls are closing in on me again!
Falling down…
The waves are crashing in on me again!
Falling down…
I feel the weight, I feel the weight AGAIN!

Videogame Digital Downloads of the Week for April 23-April 29th 2012 (XBLA, PSN, Steam, GOG, Nintendo, App Store, Android, OnLive)

Game Consoles & Handhelds (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP)

I'll have to get an updated pic with the newest systems and consoles later. :)

Want to know what downloadable videogames were released digitally this week?

Here I will list the latest downloads for all digital platforms.

Table of Contents

If you aren’t familiar with the term “digitital download”, it refers to the ability to purchase and download a digital copy (as opposed to buying a physical object in a real brick-and-mortar store) of a videogame file that is stored on the device you purchased it on. In this day and age, digital versions of major videogames are available from many publishers and for almost every platform.

Additionally, the Personal Computer platform has hosted digital downloads for a much longer time period. It wasn’t until this decade that console systems, mainly with the advent of Microsoft’s Xbox and it’s “Xbox Live” service that console users were finally given the ability to download digital products and digital updates These updates included “patches”, that fix issues with the original release; Or “DLC” which stands for “Downloadable Content” and adds all-new gameplay content and features to an existing product, expanding it and ensuring the life of the product is extended as players dive back in to play the new content.

With the advent of the iPhone and Apple’s runaway success in revolutionizing the MP3 Music Player market with their iPod and it’s “App Store” digital marketplace, the cellphone market with their iPhone and the tablet PC market with their iPad and the mobile gaming market with their iPod Touch; the term “App” (which is short for “application”, like a computer application you install on your PC… basically a replacement word for “program”) became a household name. Along with actual Apps that give you expanded functions for your device, like a Calculator, Guitar Tuner, Music Program or Alarm Clock (which is what the traditional word “App” originally described, those types of programs), the word “App” eventually became a catchall term that meant any downloadable program for a small “mobile” device like a Cellphone, iPod, Android, PDA or Tablet… and eventually even downloadable videogames were sometimes referred to as “Apps”. Btw the catchall term for Apple devices is “iOS” as they use the “iOS Operation System”.

All this history is to make a point… these days almost any device, including portable videogame systems, consoles game systems, computer systems (PC, Mac, Linux), cellphones, tablets, eReaders and other devices, all of them can download digital products. More and more everything you know, from movies and TV shows to videogames to books, magazines, comics and newspapers, are available in digital form and purchaseable in a non-physical state for access on a certain device.

Here I will list the Videogame Digital Downloads of the Week for many of these services. For an overview of what each service is (or means), read the footer at the bottom of this article.

MyDad: Classical Music (Beethoven), Spencer Tracy (Roger’s Rangers) And Computers…. TV, Movies and Memories of Days Gone By

Roger's Rangers from North West Passage With Spencer Tracey

All the kids in those days wanted to be Roger's Rangers & fight the Indians!

I was looking for some background music to listen to while kicking a poetic idea around in my head (I play it soft in the background, it actually helps me day dream better :) when I stumbled across Krystian Zimerman playing a piano concerto by Ludwig Van Beethoven with the Wiener Philharmonic Orchestra… conducted by the great Leonard Bernstein…

It was the complete #5 “Emperor”… all 42 minutes worth! What a treat… Krystian, a child prodigy born in Zabrez Poland in 1956. He started playing at age 5 under his fathers tutelage (his father was also a pianist) and in 1973 & 1975 Krystian won the 1st prize for the international piano competition in Warsaw, Poland!

This launched him to Munich, Germany; London, England; Paris France; Vienna, Austria; Berlin, Germany and more! He toured and played all over the world. Then in 1978 he made his first American appearance and then toured throughout the world at large to great critical acclaim by everyone who got to witness his amazing talent. He Performed with many renowned orchestras and worked with some of the world’s most outstanding conductors including: Claudo Abbado, Pierre Boulez, Herbert Von Karajan, Andre’ Previn and the list goes on and on… Suffice it to say, I added many of his videos to my youtube playlist.

Wow! Just the medicine… for when I’m in the mood for abreak from my oldies, rock-N- roll or even contemporary christian music. I know everyone has different tastes… and so do I, but I love to write and sometimes certain stuff just doesn’t fit the bill for where I want my senses to be taken for what I’m endeavoring to write…. and that’s where this story begins. Really…

Ya see it was while looking through the classics (on you tube again) that up popped…Old Movie Music Scores… and this led me down the trail of some memorable and great sound tracks…

The last of the Mohicans… Legends of the Fall… Dances With Wolves… Band of Brothers…. all of it sweeping music that lifted my heart to the movement of the deep sounds. Even Rachmaninoffs… Rhapsody on a theme of Paganni… beautiful stuff. Then a bunch of old John Wayne Movie soundtrack themes (which I
love by the way). Some are a little corny, but others are fantastic. There was Hugo Montenegros from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly… Gladiator’s themesong called “Honor Him”… And then the music from “Lonesome Dove”..it was during the music of this epic mini-series that something triggered in my memory… and there I was… a little kid on a lazy Saturday afternoon, back in the Phoenix Arizona of my youth.

When I was young my Mom worked for a while for “World Gift”, they carried all kinds of nik-knacks for the home… Candle Holders, Wall Plaques with the Ten Commandments and the Lords Prayer imprinted on them… almost everything of theirs seemed to be made of brass or something close to it. Anyway they sold it like
Tupper-wear does, the women have a party at someone’s house… they have snacks then order gifts from the World Gift Catalog… I don’t know how successful Mom was with this venture but there sure was a lot of World Gift stuff hanging on the walls and around the house through the years.

Well this particular Saturday Mom had a party set up somewhere and dad got the honor of babysitting us boys… not sure but I think my sister went with mom… The way I remember, it was us guys on our own for the afternoon and evening. When I think back now… I know that mom must have planned ahead and made sure we were all wellfed and taken care of before she left… Mom was a real good cook and kept us six kids well fed… Like most of the mothers I knew back then, the meals were served and eaten at the diningroom table… I can’t recall any of my child hood chums ever complaining about their mothers cooking either. Au contraire… the talk was always about the delicious foods and snacks our moms would make.

Well… I hate to say it Mom but I don’t have the slightest memory of the meal or meals that day. What I do remember is mom & sis were gone and my brothers and I were sprawled around the living room floor (everyone always hung out on the floor in those days) and Dad turned on the T.V. to the Saturday Matinee….The movie they showed that Saturday afternoon still stands out in my memory today… it was the “Northwest Passage” starring “Spencer Tracy” as “Major Rogers”. He was the leader of “Rogers Rangers” and “Robert Young” as a Harvard dropout wannabe artist who gets caught up in a rip roaring Colonial Indian War.

I remember Dad making popcorn probably during intermission… they had those back then on T.V.; it was probably 10 or 15 minutes or so of a shortbreak before they played the second half of the film. I also remember the movie was in Technicolor… but we only had a black & white T.V. then… color would come later at least for us and we didn’t mind. We were glued to the set… I know by today’s standards of special effects and fast moving stories, today’s kids would be bored and yawning through most of this old classic… But to me and my brothers back then on that Saturday… it was entrancing and so full of “He-man bravado” and heroics that we were swept up into the great saga of “Rogers Rangers” marching through the harsh wood lands of the back then North West.

I don’t know if my brothers were affected by this movie like I was or not… I remember sometimes while playing in the little wilderness areas alongside the irrigation ditches or even in our own backyard we’d pick “Roger’s Rangers” to play as… or was it just me wanting to reenact the Rangers? (editor’s note: Wow, so this was the Power Rangers of my dad’s day! :D At least we share the word “Ranger” in common!) Anywho… Over the years there were many times on construction sites in the blazing Phoenix sun when I felt like I couldn’t make it any further… that old movie would come to mind and I’d see Maj. Rogers standing there stirring his men on… and do it like only Spencer Tracy could. I’d shake off the fatigue and press on to the end of the day.

I haven’t thought of that old movie in quite a few years now. And I know my mom and sister came home a little later that Saturday night so long ago… and I’m sure she fixed a good breakfast and got us all off to church Sunday morning… maybe a nice pot roast in the oven when we came home…. Isn’t it incredible how a certain piece of music can transport you to a place in your past?… So vivid yet surreal… Somehow those moments and times are implanted in your mind and connected to a distant memory… a recall system that works or is triggered even by a smell or taste.

I don’t know about you… but I’m thinking of God right about here…. now add the computer, youtube, and the ability to look up and find almost any music or movie or historical tidbit you’re seeking… all at our fingertips in full blown action and color!

Oh what fascinating tools we have to use these days…. Even this older guy knows a good thing when he sees it!

Until next time… my friends. Godspeed and Farewell

Btw, here is the plot of North West Passage as given on Wikipedia:
The film opens in the year 1759 with the arrival of Langdon Towne (Robert Young) in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

The son of a cordage (rope)- maker and ship rigger, he returns from Harvard University after being expelled for complaining about college food and drawing an unflattering picture of the President of Harvard College. Though disappointed, Langdon’s family greets him with love, as does Elizabeth Browne (Ruth Hussey), the daughter of a noted clergyman. Elizabeth’s father (Louis Hector) is less welcoming, however, and denigrates Langdon’s aspirations to becoming a painter.

North West Passage Movie Cover ArtworkThat evening, while drinking in the local tavern with friend Sam Livermore (Lester Matthews), Langdon makes indiscreet remarks disparaging Wiseman Clagett (Montagu Love), the king’s attorney, and the Indian agent, Sir William Johnson, unaware that Clagett is sitting in the next room with another official. Facing arrest for his comments, Langdon fights the two men with the help of “Hunk” Marriner (Walter Brennan), a local woodsman and friend, before they both escape into the woods. As they flee westward, Langdon and Marriner stop in a backwoods tavern for something to drink.

There they meet a man in a green uniform who treats them to a drink called “Flip” which is similar to hot buttered rum, after they help him with a drunk American Indian. After a night of drinking, the two men wake up at Fort Crown Point, where they are told that the man they had met was Major Rogers (Spencer Tracy), the commander of Rogers’ Rangers. Needing Langdon’s mapmaking skills, Roberts recruits the two men for his latest expedition, one to destroy the hostile Abenakis tribe and their town of St. Francis far to the north.Setting out at dusk, Rogers’ force rows north using whale boats on Lake Champlain.

Traveling by night, they successfully evade river patrols by French forces but are forced to send several soldiers back to the fort after a confrontation with Mohawk scouts who were dismissed by Rogers. During the confrontation, a powder keg explodes which injures some of his force. However, Rogers not only sends back the injured to Crown Point, but the disloyal Mohawks provided him by Sir William Johnson (Frederick Worlock), and a number of his men who didn’t obey orders to avoid a confrontation with the Mohawks. Although his force is depleted, the rangers move onto their objective. Concealing their boats for a much later return, the force marches northward through swampland, avoiding dry land wherever possible to conceal their movements.

When informed by his Stockbridge Indian scouts left to watch over the boats that the French have captured their boats and extra supplies, Rogers revises his plan and sends an injured officer back to Fort Crown Point requesting the British to send supplies to old Fort Wentworth, where the returning rangers will meet them. After making a human chain to cross an unbridged river, the rangers reach St. Francis. The force succeeds in their attack, setting fire to the dwellings and cutting the Abenakis off from retreat.

When the battle is over, however, the rangers find only a few baskets of parched corn with which to replenish their dwindling provisions. Worse, as Marriner is searching the destroyed village, he comes across a prostrate Langdon suffering from a bullet wound in his abdomen. Facing hostile forces and a long march with only meager supplies, the rangers set out on their course to Wentworth, trying to evade the French and Indians pursuing them. Their initial objective is Lake Memphremagog, with the injured Langdon bringing up the rear.

Ten days later, Rogers’ men reach the hills just above Lake Memphremagog, where they hope to find food by stopping to hunt and fish. Encountering signs of French activity, Rogers prefers to press on to Fort Wentworth a hundred miles distant, but the men vote to split up into four parties and fan out in search of game to eat. Game proves scare, though; worse, two of the detachments are ambushed by the French and most of the men killed. After persevering through harsh conditions, Rogers and the remaining fifty men finally reach the fort, only to find it unoccupied and in a state of disrepair.

The hoped-for British relief column has not arrived. Though personally despairing, Rogers attempts to rally the men, who are on the verge of collapse. As Rogers attempts to perk up their flagging spirits with a prayer, they hear the fifes and drums of approaching British boats with the supplies. Reporting that the Abenakis are destroyed, the British do Rogers’ men the honor of presenting their firearms and shouting “Huzzah”. After returning to Portsmouth, Langdon reunites with Elizabeth while Rogers’ Rangers are given a new mission: to find the Northwest Passage.

Roger’s fires them up with a brief speech telling them of all the wonders they will see while they march towards the first point of embarkation, a little fort called “Detroit.” He passes by Langdon and Elizabeth to say goodbye where Elizabeth informs him that she and Langdon are headed for London where she is hopeful he will learn to become a great painter. Rogers bids them farewell and marches down the road and off into the sunset.

Persona 4: The Golden Announced. Enhanced PS Vita Version. Pop and Serious Trailers

Persona 4: The Golden Gameplay Screenshot (Dungeon)

Exploring dungeons in this PS Vita RPG update of the PS2 Atlus classic.

Persona 4 is a PS Vita remake (more of an update) of Persona 4 that will be released in Japan on June 14th, 2012; it has yet to get a Western release date, but most of the Persona games nowadays come over so you can expect it soon. Especially given that it is a big-name PlayStation Vita title. I’m sure Sony would like to see a AAA Japanese RPG of high-quality released for their new portable system.

Here is the “Serious Persona 4: The Golden Trailer” for PS Vita.

Originally, Persona 4: The Golden was to be called “Persona 4 Portable” and would be similar to the PSP version of Persona 3 (entitled: Persona 3 Portable and released on July 6 2010) where it would include a few updates and changes, but also would eliminate some of the features of the PS2 console version of Persona 4 in order to fit it on the portable format.

This is what Atlus did with the PSP version of Persona 3 Portable, which featured the ability to play as a female character (which altered a lot of the game), included two new difficulty levels, the ability to replace the assistant of Igor (Elizabeth) with a male equivalent and a few other minor changes. It also featured a major change to the battle system by incorporating elements of Persona 4. One of the ways in which the portable PSP version of Persona 3 was made inferior however was by the removal of the anime cutscenes, replaced with ingame versions. Additionally, the game added several new cameo characters from Persona 4, and new music for the female character; and a cameo by Vincent from Catherine.

Here is a trailer for the PSP “Persona 3: Portable”.

This time, for Persona 4: The Golden, Atlus was able to use the power of the PS Vita and the larger media format to simply add to the game, without taking anything away from the console PS2 version of Persona 4: FES that the PS Vita version is based on (the updated version of the original game).

Persona 4: The Golden for PS Vita will include both new features as well as new story elements. A new fully voiced character named Marie has been added to the story, and she’ll aid the core party throughout the adventure. All-new anime cutscenes have been added alongside all-new spoken lines of dialog, new Persona’s will be added, and online features that make use of Near and Party have been added-in as well, in order to take advantage of the PS Vita’s online social features.

Persona 4: The Golden Conversation Screenshot

Persona 4: The Golden will contain many a-conversation in typical RPG fashion.

Now the player can call another player to help them in difficult dungeon battles if that player is online at the same time as you! Another new feature is a Garden area that has been added, which allows you to produce items that you can save and use in dungeons.

Other new features include additional content for the “Programming Schedule” that unlock as you get further in the adventure (and allows you to listen to the game’s background music, watch the anime movies, or view artwork), new Trading Cards that you can unlock and trade wirelessly with your friends online or off (you can create your own cards in the Velvet Room) and evolved forms of the Persona’s known as “Kuma” and “Naoto”. Many more additions and changes are assured as well.

Here is the “Pop Persona 4: The Golden Trailer” for PS Vita.

Overall, fans of this game will get plenty of new content to dive into if they have played Persona 4 before, and those who never got around to playing either of the PS2 versions of Persona 4 will definitely be in for a treat. With this definitive version of Persona 4 PS Vita. I will update this article as soon as we find out when the game will be released in America and Europe.

Original Story

The new Soul Calibur V downloadable content will allow you to outfit your characters in Namco’s weapon-based fighter to look similar to those in their fisticuffs fighter… and boy does it look awesome!

Just seeing a character (Nightmare I think?) decked out to look like King is worth the price of admission alone IMHO! These will surely hit America soon (if they aren’t already out), they are available in Japan right now at a cost of ¥400/240MSP (PS3 and Xbox 360 respectively) for both the Modern Costume Set and Ancient Armor Set. Snazzy!

Will you be paying for the ability to deck your Soul Calibur character in Tekken?

Xiaoyu in Soul Calibur V?

You got your Tekken in my Soul Calibur V! This time its Xiaoyu!

Photo of the Day – Beautiful Phoenix, AZ Sunrise On April 25th, 2012. Fire In the Cloudy Sky

Phoenix, AZ Sunrise April 25, 2012

Beautiful Phoenix, Arizona sunrise earlier today! I woke up to this beauty. Photos ----don't do it justice!

This is what I woke up to this morning! A beautiful desert sunrise in Phoenix, Arizona (USA)!

As you can see, it was an absolutely incredible site to behold. The depth and the bold, bright orange and red colors were extraordinary. I tried to take a picture myself but it did it so little justice…. this one was taken by my sister-in-law. :)

Picture it about a million times more beautiful and you get an idea of what it looked like in person!
