3D Classics: Space Harrier Coming To 3DS eShop In Japan On December 26th From Sega. Other Retro Sega 3D Classics To Follow

3D Classics: Space Harrier Announced. Arcade Comes to 3DS

Hopefully 3D Classics: Space Harrier will come to the US eShop soon.

3D Classics: Space Harrier? I’m a big fan of Nintendo’s 3D Classics series, particularly 3D Classics: Xevious, if you read my previous post (Addictive Shooter: 3D Classics: Xevious) a long while back about it. Sadly Nintendo seems to have stopped making the 3D Classics series after only six entries, including: 3D Classics: TwinBee, 3D Classics: Kid Icarus, 3D Classics: Kirby’s Adventure, 3D Classics: Urban Champion, 3D Classics: Xevious, 3D Classics: Excitebike.

For whatever reason, Nitnendo didn’t take advantage of the huge opportunities to make awesome 3D versions of games that truly deserve it, like say Super Mario RPG, Super Mario Kart, F-Zero, Donkey Kong Country or the like.

However it looks like Sega may be taking up the mantle and running with it, as 3D Classics: Space Harrier, or at least a 3D remake of Space Harrier for the eShop, will be coming to the Japanese 3DS digital store on December 26th!

It will include updates to the original such as mid-game saves, various display options, Time Trial, a mode that simulates the movements and sound of the original arcade cabinet, and more, all in glorious stereoscopic, glasses-free 3D!

No word on whether or not this title will be released in the U.S., but hopefully so. And hopefully Sega has more 3D Classic retro games up its sleeve for the future!

True story: I’ve never played Space Harrier. Or much of Sega’s classic, retro library…..
