Song of the Day – Dead Flowers (Demon Hunter Month. Lyrics Included + Acoustic Video) From True Defiance Album (2012)

27 Jan

Dead Flowers by Demon Hunter is a song from their sixth full-length album, 2012’s True Defiance.

Dead Flowers may arguably be the best ballad that Demon Hunter has created since My Throat Is An Open Grave, it is a song that has a feel similar to that of Carry Me Down from Storm the Gates of Hell. It’s a true song that will have you singing the lyrics throughout, with an outstanding chorus. I don’t know why it is, but I didn’t care for Dead Flowers when I first heard it, but it has grown on me and is now considered one of my favorite songs on the album. I also love the title of the song, and the name “Dead Flowers” has so many different connotations and meanings one can glean from the title alone. Dead Flowers is the final song on the normal version of the True Defiance album, and a fitting closer.

Lyrics:

I feel ashamed with abandon in my heart and on my face
I suffered the blame
I would show to you this way
But I’m too late

When the sorrow, it breaks them
I will replace them
For you

Dead flowers for the torn apart
Laid at the grave to heal a broken heart
Let it rain it rain until it floods
Let the sun breathe life once more
Reborn

Wish you the same
To walk beside and carry on this flame
To see you again
With a radiance
of pure and holy name
When the sorrow, it breaks them
I will replace them
For you

Dead flowers for the torn apart
Laid at the grave to heal a broken heart
Let it rain it rain until it floods
Let the sun breathe life once more
Reborn

Dead flowers for the torn apart
Laid at the grave to heal a broken heart
Let it rain it rain until it floods
Let the sun breathe life once more
Reborn

Dead flowers for the torn apart [x3]

Let it rain it rain until it floods
Let the sun breathe life once more
Reborn

Dead flowers for the torn apart [x6]

Just as incredible is the acoustic video of Dead Flowers, which is only available via youtube, where Demon Hunter played it at an exclusive acoustic show (as far as I know anyhow). This version of the song is awesome, and the song really lends itself to an acoustic version.

Here is an additional treat, as lead singer Ryan Clark talks about the meaning behind the song “Dead Flowers”.

About Demon Hunter Month
January 2013 is dedicated to the Christian metal band Demon Hunter, arguably my favorite band; and will feature songs from their entire catalog featured daily throughout the month, one a day. Whether you like metal, believe in God or not, check these songs out as you may be pleasantly surprised and hopefully you will discover some new-to-your-ears music to enjoy. Demon Hunter’s sound is extremely diverse, not all songs feature screams and growls, some are slow, sung ballads; others are heartfelt, all are deep with powerful lyrics that will make you think and ponder, as the sound takes you away.
