Great news for ex-Vigil Games employees, Crytek (makers of Crysis) bought them and have moved the ex-Darksiders developers to Austin Texas as part of an all-new Crytek USA studio.
This is really great as it will allow those talented developers who created the outstanding Darksiders franchise to continue working and hopefully create another great American franchise for the German publisher.
This follows an auction from THQ in which they sold off a majority of their assets as part of their Chapter 11 Bankruptcy case; however for some odd reason Vigil Games and the Darksiders franchise were not scooped up.
It’s unclear whether or not Crytek also picked up the Darksiders franchise or just the developers, hopefully both.
THQ president Jason Rubin tweeted, “Great news for Vigil, at least the core team. Thanks to Crytek for saving as much as they could of a fantastic team.”
LifeWar is one THE shortest songs that Demon Hunter has ever composed (“And the Sky Went Red” not discounting) clocking in at a measly one minute and 51 seconds. But it’s just-under-two-minutes of absolute awesome, from beginning to end. The song starts off with a bang, features a military-style drum-roll that plays throughout, and features amazing lyrics that take one from birth through middle age, in very cool circle of life-style. Despite the short length, LifeWar is among my favorite Demon Hunter songs ever, proving that short & sweet often takes the cake.
Lyrics:
LifeWar
Born from the fire clean, crawling through the dirt like WAR.
5 years, my mother gave a voice for WAR.
10, I was dead, born again with eyes for WAR.
By 15, hate was the name of my WAR.
Wash me in the river, give me to the pain of LifeWar.
LifeWar.
Life…
20 years gone, and father told me life was like WAR.
Hands to the bone, 25 years of WAR.
30, I wake to the sound of souls at WAR.
I will pass through, buried with the flag of my WAR.
Wash me in the river, give me to the pain of LifeWar.

About Demon Hunter Month
January 2013 is dedicated to the Christian metal band Demon Hunter, arguably my favorite band; and will feature songs from their entire catalog featured daily throughout the month, one a day. Whether you like metal, believe in God or not, check these songs out as you may be pleasantly surprised and hopefully you will discover some new-to-your-ears music to enjoy. Demon Hunter’s sound is extremely diverse, not all songs feature screams and growls, some are slow, sung ballads; others are heartfelt, all are deep with powerful lyrics that will make you think and ponder, as the sound takes you away.
GBA games are officially coming to WiiU Virtual Console!
Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games are coming to WiiU Virtual Console! You heard that right, the portable GBA to the Wii U console!
You can view these announcements and the rest of what was announced in this WiiU Nintendo Direct video (skip to 8:07).
This is an unusual move by Nintendo because typically you’d expect to see Game Boy Advance games available on the 3DS… another portable, NOT on a console system. Perhaps Nintendo choose to bring them to Wii U instead of 3DS due to the fact that 3DS early adopters who bought the system before the price drop got 10 free NES games as well as 10 free GBA games.
Nintendo promised that the GBA games given as part of the 3DS Ambassador program were from a system, the GBA, that would not be getting a public release, and thus the games were truly exclusives and a strong reward for people who bought the 3DS early. By bringing GBA to WiiU instead, Nintendo has kept that promise. Which is quite surprising when you think about it. I hope they will come to their senses and re-release GBA games on 3DS as well sometime soon. GBA games are fantastic and the largest possible audience should get to enjoy them, and they make a lot of sense as 3DS titles.
Game Boy Advance Virtual Console titles will be released on the WiiU alongside NES and SNES games, to start, this Spring. Sadly GameCube Virtual Console games, which are expected to come to the WiiU Virtual Console eventually, were not announced for WiiU VC. Hopefully they’ll get announced sometimes this year…
Two WiiU System Updates are also scheduled, one for Spring and one for Summer, each of which will bring updates to the WiiU including faster system menu switching, improved load times and the ability to play Virtual Consoles games on the GamePad; along with the WiiU Virtual Console Spring launch library.
The MiiVerse will also get updates in Spring and then Summer. Updates include new features like a browser-based mobile interface to check MiiVerse from a mobile phone, user-created Community Discussion Threads, and an improved filtering system for MiiVerse messages.
Prices for SNES and NES games on WiiU Virtual Console.
WiiU Virtual Consoles games will also have a few improvements over games from the original Wii Virtual Console, and thus they will be getting re-released (much to the dismay of many who hoped they wouldn’t have to re-buy old Virtual Console titles or wait for Nintendo to re-release games that they already released for the Wii).
These WiiU Virtual Console games will include new features like MiiVerse compatibility (so people can leave messages for retro games, including tips, hints, secrets, comments and art. Which IS a very cool feature) and the ability to play the game’s on the WiiU GamePad even if the TV is in use (a feature known as “Off-TV Play”). Thankfully, if you previously owned a WiiU Virtual Console game for regular Wii, you will be able to upgrade to the improved WiiU version at a cost of $1 dollar (for NES games) or $1.50 (for SNES games). I assume you only get the cheaper price if you have transferred your Wii Virtual Console collection to the WiiU, where the system will detect it. I could be wrong though. If you don’t already own the games, you will have to pay full price. The pricing will be the same as on the regular Wii.
Famicon’s 30th anniversary brings 30 cent retro games available for 30 days.
Since the WiiU Virtual Console proper won’t release until Spring, Nintendo has announced a trial-run campaign to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Japanese Famicon (the Japanese version of the NES). To celebrate, Nintendo will be re-releasing one special Nintendo classic WiiU Virtual Console game a month, that you can purchase for only 30 cents! These games will be compatible with MiiVerse and Off-TV Play. They will cost the normal amount once the campaign ends after 30 days for each title. At which point if you own the Wii version you can buy the game at the reduced price of $1.00 or $1.50, or you will have to pay the full price of $5-6 or $8-9 dollars if you don’t yet own the game in any form.
The first Trial Game is Balloon Fight, a classic that Nintendo President Satoru Iwata was a developer on. Iwata says he hopes players will have fun trying to top the high score of other players and their friends and share their experiences with the game via MiiVerse social networking.
These classic titles will be released before the official launch of WiiU VC.
Here is the schedule of additional games for the 30th Anniversary of the Famicon Campaign:
January 2013: Balloon Fight February 2013: F-Zero March 2013: Punch Out April 2013: Kirby’s Adventure May 2013: Super Metroid June 2013: Yoshi July 2013: Donkey Kong
I think Nintendo is making a mistake by re-releasing games like F-Zero and Super Metroid that they already released for original Wii, even with the added MiiVerse and Off-TV Support. Although these new features are welcome, they should simply work on upgrading EVERY previously released Virtual Console game to include these new features, and then continue to BUILD on the Virtual Console library.
Now that they will be re-releasing games they’ve already released for regular Wii Virtual Console, Nintendo fans and retro fans have less incentive to excitedly anticipate new releases for Virtual Console, since they now know that they’ll have to wait in frustration as Nintendo continues to re-release games they already own or games that were previously released last generation…. Instead of building a HUGE library of amazing classics, this is like taking two steps back and one-step forward…. Very disappointing. Having said that, it is still cool to see MiiVerse integration with classic retro games.
But until Nintendo comes to their senses and makes games like F-Zero compatible with online play, and adds leaderboards and Achievements (which would really make people want to buy these retro games AGAIN) then I think Nintendo will be losing business and not attracting any new players… Had these games included online play or Achievements to unlock, I would gladly fork over $5-10 to rebuy them even if I owned them on Wii Virtual Console. But without features like those, I don’t know that the price is justified. It certainly doesn’t get me super excited, if anything it leaves me disappointed. And gives me even less faith that the games fans really want, like Mother I, EarthBound and Mother III, will never get a proper re-release… or if they do we will be left waiting for YEARS AGAIN! *sigh*
Dead Flowers may arguably be the best ballad that Demon Hunter has created since My Throat Is An Open Grave, it is a song that has a feel similar to that of Carry Me Down from Storm the Gates of Hell. It’s a true song that will have you singing the lyrics throughout, with an outstanding chorus. I don’t know why it is, but I didn’t care for Dead Flowers when I first heard it, but it has grown on me and is now considered one of my favorite songs on the album. I also love the title of the song, and the name “Dead Flowers” has so many different connotations and meanings one can glean from the title alone. Dead Flowers is the final song on the normal version of the True Defiance album, and a fitting closer.
Lyrics:
I feel ashamed with abandon in my heart and on my face
I suffered the blame
I would show to you this way
But I’m too late
When the sorrow, it breaks them
I will replace them
For you
Dead flowers for the torn apart
Laid at the grave to heal a broken heart
Let it rain it rain until it floods
Let the sun breathe life once more
Reborn
Wish you the same
To walk beside and carry on this flame
To see you again
With a radiance
of pure and holy name
When the sorrow, it breaks them
I will replace them
For you
Dead flowers for the torn apart
Laid at the grave to heal a broken heart
Let it rain it rain until it floods
Let the sun breathe life once more
Reborn
Dead flowers for the torn apart
Laid at the grave to heal a broken heart
Let it rain it rain until it floods
Let the sun breathe life once more
Reborn
Dead flowers for the torn apart [x3]
Let it rain it rain until it floods
Let the sun breathe life once more
Reborn
Dead flowers for the torn apart [x6]

Just as incredible is the acoustic video of Dead Flowers, which is only available via youtube, where Demon Hunter played it at an exclusive acoustic show (as far as I know anyhow). This version of the song is awesome, and the song really lends itself to an acoustic version.
Here is an additional treat, as lead singer Ryan Clark talks about the meaning behind the song “Dead Flowers”.

Blood in the Tears marks the final track on the regular edition of 2010’s The World Is A Thorn, Demon Hunter’s fifth full-length album, and is a criminally overlooked slower, but not too slow, ballad from the band. I love the feel of this song, which has a harsh tone to it while also remaining hopeful. It straddles an interesting line, as it talks about having love for your enemies and praying for them to know the pain of Christ suffering for them, just as they want to bring pain on others. This song also is interesting musically, it’s definitely not metal, but it sounds very different from their previous slower songs. It even uses autotune, and yet places it in the perfect spot to elevate the song.
Lyrics:
Don’t come on quietly when you draw near
Don’t go on lightly
Don’t leave me here
I wither quickly in winter’s cold, but carry onward like I was told
And I wait for a sign
Like blood in the tears of all my enemies (So they will see)
Knowing the pain the way they should
Blood in the tears of all my enemies (Given to me)
Leaving a trail to where you stood
And when it’s quite, when you can hear, I beg you take me away from here

Awesome. 3DS fans should be very happy with this RPG package!
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers will be released on April 16th 2013 exclusively for 3DS, and will get a special edition version that includes a Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers soundtrack CD! Available while supplies last.
The Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers soundtrack CD will include arranged versions of the most beautiful musical themes from throughout the game. This is a great continuation from Atlus, the publisher, who typically offered soundtrack CDs along with the special editions of their previous RPG releases for the original DS, so it’s great to see them continuing that tradition on Nintendo current 3DS portable.
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers was originally released for the Sega Saturn in 1997 (on the tenth anniversary of the first Shin Megami Tensei title, “Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei” released in 1987 for the Japanese NES/Famicon) and has never been released in America! It is the sequel to the original Saturn title “Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner” (the first series created exclusively for Saturn), which has never been released in America in any form.
Now though we are getting the sequel in a new version for 3DS subtitled “Soul Hackers”. Hopefully this game will sell well, if it does we’ll likely get a new 3DS version of the first game as well. I should mention that two PS2 sequels to Devil Summoner 1 and Soul Hackers were released for PS2 (and localized into English), called “Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army” (2006) and “Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon” (2009).
Fans of Persona, Nocturne, Atlus previous Shin Megami 3DS title, “Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked” and other Shin Megami Tensei and Atlus RPGs will definitely want to keep their eyes out for this title.
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers is a spin-off in the Shin Megami Tensei series. It features the same themes fans expect like occult themes, the ability to befriend enemies, a deep story and complex gameplay, although this title is meant to be easier to grasp than former games in the series and has an easier difficulty.
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers 3DS synopsis:
Never before released in America, Soul Hackers delivers a first-person, dungeon-crawling RPG experience set in a future where technology and otherworldly forces meet in a macabre fusion of cyberpunk futurism and gothic horror. A first-person sci-fi RPG epic, Soul Hackers tells of a city held up as a beacon of humanity’s triumph of technology, but with an infernal secret. In this would-be utopia, a group of hackers takes on a centuries-old mystic society, and a battle for control over humanity’s fate is about to begin.
In the classic tradition of Shin Megami Tensei, players will have the compelling choice throughout their dungeon exploration to fight the enemy demons they encounter, or negotiate with them in an attempt to turn them into allies and teammates. Soul Hackers on 3DS includes access to 30 additional demons, a new opening animation movie and theme song, improved controls, and quicker loading times. Additionally players can use the 3DS’ bottom screen as an auto-mapping function, and engage a COMP hack to change difficulty levels on the fly and fill out maps without walking through. After clearing the game initially, the 3DS version of Soul Hackers also delivers an extra dungeon, where players will witness the appearance of Raidou Kuzunoha from the previous Devil Summoner games.
Key features of Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers 3DS
* In a society originated from a bizarre marriage of technology and demon-ology, an unleashed evil-borne of an inconvenient truth-threatens to bring an end not just to the deceptive harmony, but to mankind itself.
* Improved graphics marry with extensive voice acting, a host of technical enhancements, and 3D dungeon exploration to make Soul Hackers a natural fit to the Nintendo 3DS.
* Portable COMP units allow players to tap into the tech-heavy world and can be upgraded to offer new features and abilities.
* In tandem with tech, demons can be recruited (through negotiation), leveled, and even fused, giving the player new summoning potential in battle.
Previously the expert guitarist made his writing, composing, lead vocalist and solo debut under his solo “Head” moniker, a band known as “Save Me From Myself” (same title as his autobiographical book), where he released a solo Christian metal project that was extremely well received.
Head’s solo debut album cover wallpaper.
Songs from Head’s Save Me From Myself album included hits like Flush, Money, Die Religion Die, L.O.V.E., Adonai and (my personal favorite), Washed By Blood. Every song was a powerful statement of a man who had lost it all while making it big; having all his dreams come true, only to lose his very soul in the process. However that man would be reborn after finding Jesus Christ and the love of God, which surpasses all human understanding and healed him of his drug abuse.
From left Bassis Michael Valentine, Vocalist/Guitarist Brian Head Welch, Drummer Dan Johnson, Lead Guitarist JR Bareis.
Now Brian is back, joining many of his bandmates from his solo project, who have formed a new Christian metal band called “Love & Death”, signed to Tooth & Nail Records (arguably the greatest Christian label ever, a perfect home for Head). This band returns Brian to the sound he established in Korn and Save Me From Myself, while offering a full-length album of 11 songs.
The album is a great one, although fans of Head may be a bit disappointed that many of the songs will be very well familiar to those who have been listening to Brian since Save Me From Myself and have thus already heard no less than four of these songs via youtube (Chemicals, Paralyzed, Whip It and The Abondoning). Which brings the total down to 7 new tunes *sigh*. It’s a great album however, if you’re a fan of Brian or especially if you’ve never heard his stuff before, then definitely BUY THE ALBUM!
Absolutely awesome.
Here is my song-by-song breakdown:
1. The Abondoning – Right off the bat Love & Death grip you with this POWERFUL, emotional song. The lyrics are written from the vantage point of someone who has given up on themselves, but is looking for God to save them. “Master Master Save Me” This song is a fantastic song, it’s both heavy and extremely melodic. And starts off the album on a high note. I had already heard this song before reviewing the album however, so it definitely lost a bit of it’s impact that this powerful song will have on those who are hearing it for the first time. For them this will surely be a masterpiece, although I must say the latter portion of the song is a bit weaker with no real substance to it. Even still this is a great song.
Here is the official lyric video for The Abondoning:
2. Whip It (featuring Matt Baird of Spoken, Devo Cover) – This song is absolutely awesome. It really shows off how heavy Love & Death can be and how amazing Brian Head Welch’s deep vocals are. His “Now Whip it, WHIP IT GOOD” has an extreme forcefullness that really brings this song to life. Another winner. This song made its debut on Love & Death’s “Chemicals EP”, a 4-song disc that preceded the full-length Between Here & Lost LP album’s release.
Here is the Chemicals Love & Death EP Whip It Song Video.
3. Watching the Bottom Fall – The first new song for me from this album that I hadn’t heard before. This is another heavy song that starts off really strong. I enjoy the lyrics and the way they are played in this song (with two opposing viewpoints speaking to each other). This song gets really heavy after the first two verses but has a nice pacing to it; and I love the title phrase “Watching the Bottom Fall” which just sounds awesome. Another great song.
4. By the Way – A really cool beat starts this sound off, and it’ll definitely remind fans of Brian and his old Korn material. This song is definitely the strongest yet, the lyrics are powerful and the music is fantastic. Brian also stretches his vocals into new territory on this song and sings in more varied ways.
5. Meltdown – I wasn’t sure if I liked this song or not, but there is an amazing, touching, beautiful section near the end of the song that completely 100% redeems it. From chaos to the light…. Amazing. I’ll have to give this one a few more listens before I judge it. It also ends on an extremely awesome note that’s straight-up bad ass metal.
6. My Disaster – Absolutely AWESOME. The music in this song is freakin’ crazy. This song is probably my favorite so far. This song just has awesome music straight through.
7. I W8 4 U (feat. Mattie Montgomery of For Today)- Did I say the last song had crazy music? The intro for this song is insane. I absolutely love the heavy chorus for this song. Once again Brian’s vocals are awesome, although I don’t like his slow, kind of whispery voice sections on this song. That’s the only downside though. Once the “Fed Up” part comes in, the song goes absolutely bonkers and I love it. The drumbeat at that section is really cool. “Burning, bleeding, dying I WAIIIIIITTTTT!!!!!!!!” So awesome.
8. Fading Away – The music is really cool in this song but par for the course. This song didn’t do anything for me.
9. Paralyzed – Absolutely love this song. I had already heard it a ton though so I can’t judge it. It’s great however and Brian rocks out like no other. This was the song that proved to the world that Brian Head Welch was BACK. The music is absolutely rockin and the lyrics are great. The growl that erupts out of Brian at the bridge is absolutely EPIC with a capital E. “Death. Before. I. Give. Dis. Honor. Death. Before. I. Dis. Obey. DISOBEYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Here is the official Paralyzed Love & Death HD Music Video.
10. Chemicals– This song is great as well, the music from the opening absolutely kills. And the lyrics are some of the best on the album. I absolutely love the lyrics at the end, “I’m not a criminal / I HATE THE CHEMICALS!” The lyrics overall are amazing and the mixing is excellent. If you haven’t seen the music video definitely check it out. This song was old hat to me as well so it’s hard to judge it. It is awesome however and I actually prefer the sound of the studio song to the music video, as it sounds a bit different with the way its mixed with some parts having more impact and less stops.
Here is the official Love & Death Chemicals Music Video.
11. Bruises – A masterpiece. Worth the price of admission alone. This song has so many different varying vocal styles and pacing, from really light and whispery to heavy and in between. An absolutely fantastic end to a great album, you could consider this the only “slow song” or ballad on the album. Don’t miss it!
Overall it’s a great album. It’s not a masterpiece by any stretch, but it’s got some awesome music. I definitely recommend you go out and buy it! :)
Thanks to Tooth & Nail Records for providing me with a review copy of this awesome album.
I Am A Stone by Demon Hunter is the final song from their sixth full-length album, 2012’s True Defiance Deluxe Edition. Capping the special edition version of the album off extremely nicely with a true worship song.
I Am A Stone from Demon Hunter’s 2012 album, True Defiance, stretches the vocal abilities of the band in ways never imagined before, with a virtual A-Cappella performance by lead singer Ryan Clark that is a true thing of beauty. I Am A Stone is a bonus song on the Deluxe Edition of True Defiance (along with the extra song What Is Left, another slower tune) that is worth the price of admission alone. The song is that amazing. It is also another worship song, following in the tradition of Thorns (Storm the Gates of Hell) and Driving Nails (World Is A Thorn). This song gives me tears everytime I hear it, it truly is a phenomenal song.
Lyrics:
It’s Hard to Say
That I’m Back
On a Straight Line
You See My Path
Is In Fact
Just A Fall Line
It’s In My Blood, It’s In My Lungs
And It Won’t Die
I Fight These Words, I Bite My Tongue
So I Don’t Lie
Though It’s Me to Blame
There is No More Shame in Me
In Me…
I Just Feel the Same
Immune to All This Pain
And the Scars Don’t Write a Song for Me At All…
I Am a Stone, Unaffected
Rain Hell Down Onto Me
Flesh and Bone, Unaffected
Your Fool I Will Not Be
I Am a Stone, Unaffected
(I Am a Stone)
Rain Hell Down Onto Me
Flesh and Bone, Unaffected
(I Am a Stone)
Your Fool I Will Not Be
I Try to See and Believe
In the Short Side
Accept the Burn of A Vein
And A Half-Life
And How You Rest Your Faith in These for a Lifetime
That Hollow Lie Against My Hope That I Won’t Buy
Though It’s Me to Blame
There is No More Shame in Me
In Me…
I Just Feel the Same
Immune to You Say
And the Scars Don’t Write a Song for Me At All…
No Your Tears Won’t Line A Path for me to Crawl
I Am a Stone, Unaffected
Rain Hell Down Onto Me
Flesh and Bone, Unaffected
Your Fool I Will Not Be
I Am a Stone, Unaffected
(I Am a Stone)
Rain Hell Down Onto Me
Flesh and Bone, Unaffected
(I Am a Stone)
Your Fool I Will Not Be
The Waters Rise Above My Eyes
I Will Breathe It In and Go Out With the Tide
And When You Think This is The End
You Will Find Me There Where I Have Always Been
I Am a Stone, Unaffected
Rain Hell Down Onto Me
Flesh and Bone, Unaffected
Your Fool I Will Not Be
I Am a Stone, Unaffected
Rain Hell Down Onto Me
Flesh and Bone, Unaffected
Your Fool I Will Not Be
I Am a Stone, Unaffected
(I Am a Stone)
Rain Hell Down Onto Me
Flesh and Bone, Unaffected
(I Am a Stone)
Your Fool I Will Not Be
I Am a Stone…
I Am a Stone
