Billion Avengers, The Avengers Box Office Sales Exceed $1 Billion Dollars Worldwide. Makes Avengers Only the 12th Movie Ever To Do So

Lego The Avengers Poster

The Avengers official Lego Set poster! Hopefully a Lego Avengers: The Videogame is coming soon!

The Avengers box office ticket sales have surpassed $1 billion dollars worldwide!

As such, Marvel Comics and Disney’s “The Avengers”, the titanic superhero film that brings together Marvel comics most-famous superheroes into one movie, has shattered a multitude of records and set new ones in a triumphant display of the power, draw and zeal that superhero films demand. It also proves without a doubt, that superhero films may in fact be the most popular style of film and film material, as several of the biggest movies ever made are now superhero films. The comicbook has now, truly, come of age.

As for The Avengers, it has become only the 12th film in history to achieve the Billion Dollar mark! This is an amazing feat.

Other records that have been shattered by The Avengers include:
* 12th film in history to earn over $1 billion dollars worldwide.
* The second film in history to ever achieve the $1 billion mark with such speed. The movie that achieved it the quickest remains John Cameron’s Avatar.
* The Avengers now holds the U.S. record for the film with the biggest opening weekend of all time, grossing $207 million dollars for the film’s debut.
* The Avengers is the fastest film in the history of the United States to reach over $300 million dollars made and $350 million, achieving that mark in only one week.
* Highest three-day total of all time in the U.S. Earning 23% more than previous record-holder, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
* First film ever to reach $100 million in its second week at U.S. theaters. Compare this to The Dark Knight in 2008 which reached $75 million in its second week, and Avatar in 2009 also with $75 million. And The Avengers absolutely dwarfs the competition.
* The Hunger Games is the best-selling movie of 2012… it has made $386.9 million so far and took 7 weeks to do so. The Avengers will have that surpassed by tomorrow, much, MUCH sooner. Having only taken 3 weeks! And 20 or 21st day at international cinemas.
* The Avengers total of $1,002,100,000 is the 11th highest gross of all time.

The Avengers marks the fifth Disney movie to surpass the billion dollar mark, others include Alice in Wonderland (10th movie to gross $1 billion), Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace (9th), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (8th), Toy Story 3 (7th), and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (6th).

The other movies to make a billion dollars include: Transformers: Dark of the Moon (5th), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (4th), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (3rd), James Cameron’s Titanic (2nd) and James Cameron’s Avatar (1st).

It is expected that, within another one or two weeks, The Avengers will climb up the list of the highest-grossing movies of all time, to top out at 4th place. Knocking The Lord of the Rings down a peg, and sitting pretty behind the final Harry Potter film in that franchise. No one expects The Avengers to top Harry Potter, much less the two James Cameron epics… but you’d be underestimating the combined power of the world’s mightiest superheroes. And you do so at your own peril!

On a personal note, where the heck is The Dark Knight!? I could’ve sworn The Dark Knight also shattered all kinds of records and was one of the highest grossing movies of all time. Maybe it sits in 11th place?

Update: The Dark Knight is INDEED in 11th place, so The Avengers has fallen just behind it, becoming the 12th movie of all time to surpass one billion dollars, although The Avengers has already far surpassed The Dark Knight in money earned, as mentioned above.

Here are the Top 10 $1 billion dollar movies:

#1. Avatar ($2,782.3 Billion)
#2. Titanic ($2183.4 Billion)
#3. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($1,328.1 Billion)
#4. Transformers: Dark of the Moon ($1,123.7 Billion)
#5. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1,119.9 Billion)
#6. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest ($1,066.2 Billion)
#7. Toy Story 3 ($1,063.2 Billion)
#8. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides ($1,043.9 Billion)
#9. Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace ($1,026.3 Billion)
#10. 2010’s Alice In Wonderland ($1,024.3 Billion)
#11 The Dark Knight ($1001.9 Billion)

Top 10 Domestic Best-Selling Box Office Movies of All Time (adjusted for inflation):

1. Gone With the Wind ($1,600.2 Million)
2. Star Wars ($1,410.7 Million)
3. The Sound of Music ($1,127.9 Million)
4. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial ($1,123.4 Million)
5. Titanic ($1,074.1 Million)
6. The Ten Commandments ($1,037.5 Million)
7. Jaws ($1,014.3 Million)

Movie Theater Releases of the Week – Films Now Playing (May 11 – May 17th 2012)

Dark Shadows Poster

Tim Burton and Johnny Depp return in Dark Shadows Now Playing.

New Movies Opening today and hitting theaters this week include the following films. What movies will you be seeing?

The biggest new movie opening today (Friday, May 11th) is a new Tim Burton film starring Johnny Depp, which is sure to be a hit. That film is called Dark Shadows, and is based on a long-running old TV show of the same name. Although significantly changed and updating for an all-new generation.

Outside of these new films, The Avengers is sure to continue selling like hot cakes, as word of mouth spreads and people continue to head to the cinema to see the biggest superhero movie ever and one of the biggest films of all time (It’s user-review rating on IMDB is a very high 8.8 out of 10!). Analysts believe “The Avengers” will make over a billion dollars during its theatrical run (the film opened with a first-week gross higher than The Dark Knight, a film that went on to gross over 1 billion), entering the tip-top of the film food chain and obtaining the holy grail of block buster movie superiority. Earning over $1 Billion dollars worldwide is NOT easy and a feat attained by only six movies in box office history, among them: James Cameron’s Avatar and Titanic films, The Dark Knight, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. ONLY THOSE. Can The Avengers join their ranks through the combined power of Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Captain America and Nick Fury? We’ll find out soon, although The Avengers is still yet to finish it’s opening week haul!

In case you missed it, be sure to check out last week’s Movie Theater Releases of the Week (April 30-May 6 2012).

Movie Theater Releases of the Week – Films Now Playing (April 30th – May 6th 2012)

The Avengers Movie Out Now In Theaters!

Earth’s Mightiest Marvel Superheroes team-up in The Avengers!

What new movies have hit theaters for your weekend entertainment? See the list below. The biggest, and most obvious, titan of box office releases is the long-awaited Marvel Comics movie adaptation of “The Avengers”. This film has been a decade “in the making” as Marvel slowly built up to it with each subsequent superhero movie they pumped out… Hyping it with an end-of-movie epilogue showcasing Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. (played by Samuel L. Jackson) meeting up with each of the Marvel comics characters, from Wolverine to Iron Man to The Hulk to Captain America, the stage has finally been set to bring all of the major Marvel superheroes together in one live-action film!

The Avengers is truly the DREAM FILM that all superhero and comicbook fans have dreamed of but NEVER IN THEIR LIFETIME thought would actually get made. The fact that Marvel has done it, and successfully pulled off the slow-build by linking each new superhero film to The Avengers via an additional end-movie scene, is absolute GENIUS. So far everyone I know who has seen it says it’s awesome and gives it high praise. Many said it was much better than they expected. CAN’T WAIT TO SEE IT!

What movies will you be seeing this weekend or seeing soon? It’s been a LONG TIME since I’ve been to the theater, I don’t have any money at the moment so I don’t know when I’ll be able to see a new movie, but I definitely must catch The Avengers in theaters!

NEW MOVIE DEBUTS – May 4th, 2012

The Avengers

Jim Carrey Before He Was Famous (Video, Early Stand-Up Impersonation Performances As A Highschool Senior)

Jim Carrey Before He Was Famous As A 18-year-old Teen

A very young Jim Carrey, before he was famous and known the world over.

Can you imagine saying “Jim Carrey who?” Before Jim Carrey was famous, that is exactly what you would have said.

In retrospect it’s hard to even fathom a person of Jim Carrey’s fame NOT being famous… and not being such a beloved and recognizable personality (real name: “James Eugene Carrey”). As such, it is extremely interesting to look at the actor from a time when he was an unknown… a stand-up comedian who’d travel the nation and between several states and his native Canada (I only JUST FOUND OUT that Jim Carrey was a Canadian…. *mind blown*) doing shows.

And just like his work now that is absolute comedic perfection, Jim Carrey in the early days was a nose-to-the-grindstone hard worker who’d put in the hours, the time, and the money to do as many shows as he could (even sleeping in the places he’d perform). He’d practice for hours and hours in front of a mirror in order to make sure he got his funny faces down pat. Of course, all of that hard work would pay off… but it wouldn’t pay off until another nearly twenty years following these old videos of Jim Carey from 1979 and 1980, where he performs funny impersonations of then-President Jimmy Carter and many others.

What’s amazing is to hear Jim Carrey in his rare, more serious moments during the interview for this biography, where Jim Carrey talks about how he’d drive for hundreds of miles to do shows… and sometimes free shows. Where they didn’t even give him gas money. Imagine that. There was once a day when Jim Carrey needed gas money. *mind wobbles* I also must say that Jim Carrey looks freakin’ WEIRD in these interviews… granted he’s a 16/17/18 year-old kid… but still. He has a long neck. :P What’s amazing too is that the way he acts now and his comedic routines were all laid down back in these early years, despite his age you can clearly see the modern Jim Carrey in his stage routine.

The most interesting though is Jim Carrey’s evident burning passion to BE SOMEONE… he wanted to be someone so famous that he couldn’t walk the street without being recognized. And the look in his eyes, a very sad look, says it all.

Self-fulfilled prophecy? “Faith without works is dead.” This guy earned it. Great job Jim Carrey, you achieved your dream! Enjoy this video. :)

Marvel Daredevil Film Reboot (2013?) In the Works. Movie Gets Scriptwriter David Slade Fox Announces

Daredevil Wallpaper Is Badass!

Some absolutely kickass Daredevil wallpaper! Hopefully the Daredevil film reboot looks like this!

A Daredevil 2013 film reboot? 2003’s Daredevil movie starring Ben Affleck was highly panned by critics and fans alike, but fans may soon be relieved of their suffering… A new Daredevil reboot of the film franchise is currently in the works!

Whether you like it… or not! Oh and 2013 is a speculative date by me. :D Personally I’m a “like it”, as I enjoyed the original film despite how they butchered the comic and animated character I knew… and I’m sorry but you can’t make “The Kingpin” black. Switching a character’s race from their original incarnation (read: Nick Fury of SHIELD as seen in The Avengers… *sigh*) should be an absolutely NO GO.

Although despite that fact, I thought the black Kingpin played by Michael Clarke Duncan was an outstanding portrayal of the character and, taking it for what it was, I thought the Ben Affleck Daredevil movie was a fine and entertaining film. I also thought that Ben Affleck, Michael Duncan, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, and everyone else in the movie did an excellent job with their roles. I enjoyed the film… I still need to get that Director’s Cut version and watch it…

2003 Daredevil vs Elektra Movie Screenshot

Ben Afleck's Daredevil fighting Jennifer Garner's Elektra from the 2003 film. I liked the movie.

Anyhoo, back to the Daredevil reboot! Fox owns the rights to the Daredevil film franchise (well, it only saw one movie after the original 2003 version “flopped”, although a much-improved Director’s Cut version with over half an hour of deleted scenes was released on home video) and has put David Slade on writing duties to pen the script for the upcoming reboot. Fox is hoping that they will be able to maintain the Daredevil license, as well as the Fantastic Four license they hold. Since, you know, they are still money-printing machines.

This news follows in the wake of Hollywood’s recent love of rebooting film franchises (something I wholeheartedly embrace), which was started by the reboot of The Incredible Hulk with the self-titled movie released in 2008 to much critical acclaim and commercial success after the original Ang Lee-directed “Hulk” (2003) was seen as a flop (I loved that movie as well). The new version, “The Incredible Hulk” had nothing to do with the original “Hulk” and went in a completely new direction with new actors, directors, producers, etc. I highly enjoyed the Hulk reboot as well. The Dark Knight Rises Theater Release Date is July 20, 2012. Final Christopher Nolan Batman Film. Last Trailer Before Debut

The Dark Knight Rises The Legend Ends Poster (Official artwork)

The millennial Batman saga comes to a close in The Dark Knight Rises on July 20, 2012

The Dark Knight rises hits theaters on July 20th, 2012 and is sure to be one of the biggest films of ALL TIME.

The film marks the third and FINAL entry in Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed, record-breaking, billion-dollar-earning Batman film franchise reboot following The Dark Knight (2008) and Batman Begins (2005). And is sure to be a fitting end to what amounts as one of the finest film-entry superhero franchises of all time and one of the greatest comebacks of all time following the 90s Batman series and its ever downward spiral.

Of course, the Batman series needs no introduction, as virtually everyone and their mother, father, grandmother, grandfather and little baby Jake have seen The Dark Knight and are well-familiar with the late-great, Heath Ledger and his memorizing portrayal of Batman’s key villain, The Joker (a role that would be one of his last before his untimely drug overdose). Ledger died during the editing of the film and it stands as his penultimate hallmark.

(Although Heath Ledger’s final film would be “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”, a film he did not complete as his passing came during the filming of it, and he was only a third of the way through his role. As such, actors Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell stepped in and performed transformations of Ledger’s character as he travels through a dream world in the film.)

Because of Heath Ledger’s death (or despite of it), The Dark Knight became infamous and the film opened to the biggest haul in box office history, slashing records and setting new benchmarks for both superhero films and films in general. It is the eleventh highest-grossing film of all time and went on to gross over a billion dollars, grossing theater sales in total of $1,001,921,825 (that’s billions). It is the third highest grossing movie of all time in the United States, behind only Titanic and James Cameron’s Avatar. The Dark Knight was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won for Best Sound Editing and Best Supporting Actor for Heath Ledger’s performance of The Joker, the first posthumous award given since since Peter Finch in 1976.

Can The Dark Knight Rises top that? We’ll find out soon… Here is the last and final trailer for The Dark Knight rises. (which I won’t watch… I refuse to see any trailers and I know virtually nothing about the film. So I’ll be going into it with completely fresh eyes! :D)

Pokemon White 2 and Pokemon Black 2 Announced. New Trailer Shows Gameplay (Nintendo Direct)

White Kyurem and Black Kyurem Artwork

The two shades of Kyurem as they appear in Pokemon Black and White 2's art.

Pokemon White Version 2 and Pokemon Black Version 2 have been officially announced for Nintendo DS (NOT 3DS), as Pokemon fans already well know. The games will be released this fall in America and Europe, and release in Japan on June 23rd 2012.

This makes the localization for the sure-to-be-hefty RPGs the shortest translation process (localizing the games from Japanese to English) in Pokemon history… since Pokemon games contain so much text, there is usually a wide gap between the Western and Eastern releases… looks like Nintendo and Game Freak are getting ever more efficient at translating them.

Although the games are technically for the regular DS, they can still be played on a 3DS (like with all DS games, as the 3DS is backwards compatible ensuring older DS games work on it) although they will remain in 2D. However Nintendo has promised that the games will have some kind of 3DS and DSi capability….

Here is the newest gameplay trailer from Nintendo Direct for Pokemon White and Black 2!

New forms of the Pokemon Kyurem will be the main Legendary Pokemon and mascots of Pokemon White 2 and Pokemon Black 2, and will be sported on the game’s cover. They are called “Black Kyurem” and “White Kyurem.” A sort of combination of Kyurem and Reshiram (Ice and Fire type?) and Kyurem and Zekrom (Ice and Electric type?) seems to be suggested… although it turns out that both of them will keep regular Kyurem’s Dragon/Ice typing… Bummer.

Both of the characters will tie into the upcoming Pokemon anime movie (called “Pokemon: Kyurem VS The Sacred Swordsman: Keldeo” in Japan) as you can see in this trailer for the film.

Total Recall 2012 Movie Remake – Trailer

Total Recall 2012 Screenshot

The awesome cityscape of Total Recall 2012

So, they are remaking Total Recall. Yes THAT Total Recall. The only scene you remember is the triple-breasted girl?! My my, such a dirty mind.

Triple-Boobed Total Recall Girl

The only scene a young boy remembers from Total Recall, natch

Ahem. So yes, Hollywood continues on its remaking spree of everything classic, including many 80s properties. First it was Transformers, then it was Alvin in the Chipmunks… You had Smurfs, Muppets, and that’s not to mention all of the comicbook superheroes (although many of them are earlier than the 80s). Next up is Michael Bay who is rebooting Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles…. Which is absolutey awesome, but I’ll save that for an article all its own.

If you’re like me, then you didn’t find Total Recall to be that great of a movie. Granted it has been a vast number of years since I last saw it, and in my younger days I probably didn’t understand the movie that well. So I should put it on my “rewatch” list…

Either way, you’ll be hard-pressed not to find this Total Recall 2012 trailer absolutely awesome. It kinda reminds me of the videogame trailer for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I think I should repost that trailer as it’s own news article because it was so badass. I’ll also include it below.

Here is the trailer for Total Recall, which hits theaters on August 3rd, 2010! And no, it doesn’t have Arnold in it. FOR SHAME or YAY? I have to go with the latter, I’m REALLY digging the serious mode of this remake. The campiness really ruined the original film from what I recall.

Enjoy!

And here is the equally awesome if not MORE AWESOME trailer for 2010’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution game from Square Enix and Eidos.

Total Recall Arnold

Oh Arnold... How we miss you.

50 Movies You Should See (By Early Teens)

E.T. Wallpaper

Steven Spielberg's infamous E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial early 80s film. A staple of my childhood!

What are the top 50 films teenagers should see?

If you enjoy this article and list, please like it at the top of the website and share it on Facebook and Twitter, I’d greatly appreciate it! And leave a comment if you’re so inclined. :)

There’s actually a list already compiled that is pretty interesting. It was compiled in 2005 by the British Film Institute and was created in order to help inspire parents and educators to use films as a teaching platform; also helping to promote the film medium as art.

A group of 70 experts are the ones who came up with the list, and their expertise covered teachers, critics, authors, and producers. Each of them made their own top ten lists and then that list was compiled into the list you see below.

Here are the top 50 movies every kid should see by the time they reach 14!

THE TOP TEN

Bicycle Thieves (1948)
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Kes (1969)
The Night of the Hunter (1955)
The 400 Blows (1959)
Show Me Love (1998)
Spirited Away (2001)
Toy Story (1995)

One of these days, I’ll watch every movie from this list! The sad reality is that I don’t often find time to watch movies (or TV shows for that matter) so I’m so hugely behind. I’m also behind in games though sadly. I think I see more films than games because I do go to the theaters somewhat frequently. Or at least I did over the past year or so before things got rough financially.
