Metal Song of the Day – Path of the Beam (Becoming the Archetype Month. Lyrics Included) From Celestial Completion

Path of the Beam by Becoming the Archetype is track #4 from the epic fourth becoming the Archetype album, 2011’s Celestial Completion.

Path of the Beam is my FAVORITE track from Celestial Completion, which is definitely saying something. I absolutely love how this song comes together, the awesome drum intro, and how it features amazing singing that fits so well with the awesome heaviness of the track. I especially love the way I wrote out the lyrics which match the music perfectly if I do say so myself. One of the aspects I most love about Becoming the Archetype is the embrace of science and using it to point to God, something that happens all throughout their discography, but especially on Celestial Completion, with songs like this one, which is a song about the Rapture with plenty of references to the science of light. This song is absolutely EPIC. Enjoy.

Necrotizing Fasciitis by Becoming the Archetype is a non-album single released in 2009 between album releases, just to give the gift of new epic metal to their growing fanbase.

And BOY DID THEY EVER GIVE US THE GIFT OF METAL! Necrotizing Fasciitis is the most intense song Becoming the Archetype has ever produced and is oozing with pure blistering awesomeness. The song is absolutely badass in every sense. It is extremely fast and features an amazing metaphor that likens the disgusting, extremely brutal, bloody disease from which the song gets its title, to the way that sin slowly rots a man from the inside out, and the only thing that can save their flesh from eternal corruption is the light of Jesus Christ. Christ is the one “plague” that can utterly destroy the plague itself, the plague of death. EPIC!

Necrotizing Fasciitis song explanation by vocalist Jason Wisdom:

“The lyrical concept for this song is short and sweet. Necrotizing Fasciitis means “flesh eating bacteria”, which fits the aura of the song perfectly – it is nasty. However, as is often true of great songs, there is an underlying metaphor in the text. In this case, the plague is Jesus. Kind of a dark metaphor huh? Well maybe, but the idea is very simple. Flesh, or more specifically the sinful nature of carnal self, is something that all humans struggle with, and Christ is the only true power for defeating that sinful nature. And so, we cry out for Him to infest our bodies and devour our flesh. EMBRACE THE PLAGUE!”

The Sky Bearer by Becoming the Archetype is the 4th song off their debut album, 2012’s I AM. Be sure to check out my Becoming the Archetype I AM review of the album.

The Sky Bearer is an AWESOME track off Becoming the Archetype’s latest album, 2012’s I AM. This song is simply awesome because it puts into perspective how powerful God really is, and the fact that he carried all of existence on his back, which the song describes as “unbearable freight”. Such an AWESOME way to put it. This song is heavy as all heck and I absolutely love it!

Metal Song of the Day – No Fall Too Far (Becoming the Archetype Month. Lyrics Included) From Terminate Damnation Album

No Fall Too Far by Becoming the Archetype is the 8th song off their debut album, 2005’s Terminate Damnation.

Another standout track from Becoming the Archetype’s 2005 debut album is this piece. Which catches the with the intense opening screams. As always with their debut album, there isn’t really a lot to comment on other than the fact that what you just heard was pretty awesome indeed. I love the very long last minute or so that seems to go on forever, as you just completely rock your little heart out with headbanging. Gotta love it. Especially when his growls kick in and they just seem to be rocking out to the sounds of “LIFFFFFEEEE!”

Metal Songs of the Day – The Great Fall + Dichotomy (Becoming the Archetype Month. Lyrics Included)

The Great Fall and Dichotomy by Becoming the Archetype are two equally amazing tracks. The former from 2007’s The Physics of Fire and the latter from is the self-titled track (and one of the most amazing song ever. Period) from BtA’s third full-length album Dichotomy.

I thought that these songs went well together because both of them talk about the Fall of Man, and both of them seem to complement each other well in theme. The Great Fall is one of my favorite tracks from Physics of Fire with an absolutely epic intro (I absolutely love the part leading up to the growl of “CORRUPTION!”) and this line “In exchange for the keys to knowledge/Mankind gave up their immortal souls” is one of my favorite lines on the entire album (especially the way its growled), while Dichotomy is an absolute masterwork. Every single aspect of this song is utter perfection, including the fact that Ryan Clark of Demon Hunter sings the incredible slow section of the song. This song is pure, utter, metal bless, and impresses from the incredible, thought-provoking lyrics to the last pulverizing note. A song that makes you think, rocks your face off, and soars in both melodic beauty and epic sound… If any song can get a perfect 10 from me, it is this one!

Metal Song of the Day – Autopsy (Becoming the Archetype Month. Lyrics Included) From Physics of Fire Album

Autopsy by Becoming the Archetype is an the third track from 2007’s The Physics of Fire, BtA’s sophomore album. This second album took the band in an entirely new direction, with a much more refined sound, their first metal singing, and was their first concept album, dealing with matters of sin and evil represented as Ice, with the Holy Spirit being the fire of one’s soul, allowing them to break free of the chains that bind them.

I absolutely love this song, and the lyrics are incredible. It starts off with a bang, really fast pulverizing metal with growled vocals perfectly sung, and never lets up through. This song has an incredible concept, and sums the overall theme of this album nicely with this one line: “If a flame once burned within this shell/Set me on fire one last time.” The lyrics are awesome in this song because the song talks about what it’s like to open a person up, physically, but relates it to the spiritual awakeness or death found within one’s soul. Totally metal and totally EPIC! The “SET ME ON, FIRE!” section at the end caps an absolutely incredible song up nicely.

Metal Song of the Day – Breathing Light (Becoming the Archetype Month. Lyrics Included) From Celestial Completion Album

Breathing Light by Becoming the Archetype is today’s Becoming the Archetype Month Metal Song of the Day. This song is track 11, the final track from BtA’s fourth full-length album, 2011’s Celestial Completion.

Breathing Light is one of my least favorite songs off their entire catalog, yet at the same time I have immense respect for what the song is. This song is the most ballad-like, singable song that the band has ever recorded, and takes their sound in a completely different direction. Not that it isn’t heavy, because it is and it has deep growls, but it also has a pretty amazing singing chorus. It’s just not my taste. This is one of my brother’s favorite Becoming the Archetype songs, and it is indeed a good one. Just not one that I typically listen to compared to their other stuff. Either way, YOU will most likely enjoy it! :)

The Epigone by Becoming the Archetype is an epic song off their debut album, 2005’s Terminate Damnation.

This song has an epic intro, and the lryics are absolutely amazing. “There’s nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said / I’m just repeating myself repeating someone else / Equally incapable of uttering a single new thought / Yet You are ever worthy, of adoration!” I love it! This song is also quite singable. Wait. Did I say the s-word? Growlable I meant of course, you can scream along! Although no doubt not nearly as epicly as Jason Wisdom here! The gang-vocals at the end of the song where they yell “IN YOUR WAY!” and “No Opposition!” really add a ton to this piece. This is one of my favorite songs off Terminate Damnation, if it’s even possible to pick a favorite. Check it out!

Metal Song of the Day – Artificial Immortality (Becoming the Archetype Month. Lyrics Included) From Dichotomy Album

Artificial Immortality by Becoming the Archetype is the song of the day for Becoming the Archetype Month. It hails from Becoming the Archetype’s landmark third full-length album, 2008’s Dichotomy.

By far one of the coolest songs the band has ever done, Artificial Immortality tells of the war between man and machine, the human soul vs the man-created existence. The song is epic, brutal, tight and absolutely badass, with some fantastic lyrics. Most likely inspired by “Do Robots Dream of Robotic Sheep”, the concept of a man-created robot becoming sentient and the idea of whether a robot could feel emotion and “grow” a soul, is a concept that has fascinated man for a century. It makes a fitting topic to bring into the realm of the Biblical as well, and BtA do it in phenomenal style. If this song doesn’t make you a fan, nothing will! “I AM A BEAST!”

Metal Songs of the Day – The Latest And the Last + Grand Finale (Demon Hunter Month. Lyrics Included) From Summer of Darkness and Storm the Gates of Hell Albums (2004, 2007)

The Latest and the Last + Grand Finale brings Demon Hunter Month to a pulverizing close, capping off this epic run of incredible Christian metal with two of my all-time favorite Demon Hunter songs; both of which fitting cap off equally epic albums.

The Latest & the Last is the final song on 2004’s Summer of Darkness, a brutal and awesome ending to Demon Hunter’s sophomore album, whereas Grand Finale is the much more recent capping off of 2007’s incredible fourth album, Storm the Gates of Hell Deluxe Edition; and a perfectly fitting epilogue and tribute to the Second Coming of Christ that is about as good a fit as anyone could come up with to close the book on Demon Hunter month, January 2013.
