Song of the Day – I Am You (Demon Hunter Month. Lyrics Included) From Storm the Gates of Hell Album (2007)

I Am You by Demon Hunter is a song from their fourth album, 2007’s Storm the Gates of Hell.

One of my favorite tracks off the absolutely phenomenal fourth album Storm the Gates by Demon Hunter, is this song entitled “I Am You”. One of the coolest sections of the album and among the heaviest; as it is preceded by the equally awesome “A Thread of Light”. I Am You features immense heaviness, fantastic lyrics, a great opener, an amazing premise, and is simply awesome all the way through. The chorus isn’t quite as good as that on the previous song and the ending suffers a bit IMHO, but it’s still great and among my favorite Demon Hunter songs.

Instrumental Song of the Day – Dust And Smoke (Demon Hunter Month) Instrumental From 45 Days Documentary Film Soundtrack

Dust & Smoke by Demon Hunter is a cowboys and Indians Western-style instrumental song from Demon Hunter’s 2008 documentary film 45 Days‘ soundtrack.

The 45 Days soundtrack album is wholly poetic and voiceless, with all acoustic instrumental tracks (10 of them) that are absolutely beautiful. The one that has always stood out to me the most and that I continue to play even today, is this track, entitled “Dust & Smoke”. Since this is an instrumental track, there are no lyrics. But listen in awe as you get to hear Demon Hunter compose beautiful instrumental music that is unlike anything the band has ever done before or since.

Metal Song of the Day – Annihilate The Corrupt (Demon Hunter Month. Lyrics Included) From Summer of Darkness Album (2004)

Annihilate the Corrupt by Demon Hunter is a song from their 2004 sophomore album Summer of Darkness.

Whenever I go to play Summer of Darkness, Demon Hunter’s landmark second album, the first song I play will typically be Annihilate the Corrupt. This song is so absolutely badass, and shines through the rest of the songs as extremely memorable even today. The reason the song catches my ear each and everytime is due to a unique, glutteral grown that is the literal aural interpretation of “Grrrrr!” that you will hear precisely at 3:11 (as well as during the awesome intro). This growl is EPIC, even though it is very brief, and elevates the song to new heights. The song is awesome on it’s own, even without that unique piece of artistic work. This song also features a beautiful sung chorus that is lyrically awesome. I also absolutely love the “THIS IS LIFE! THIS IS LOVE!” part, which is one of my favorite Demon Hunter moments of all time. Be sure to crank it up right there for an epic growl! If you haven’t heard Annihilate the Corrupt (easily one of the greatest Christian metal song names ever penned), give it a listen. You won’t be disappointed!

Song of the Day – Desire The Pain (Demon Hunter Month. Lyrics Included) From The World Is A Thorn Deluxe Album (2010)

Desire the Pain by Demon Hunter is a song from their 2010 The World Is A Thorn Deluxe Edition album, available exclusively via the Deluxe Edition of the album; which featured Desire the Pain alongside Driving Nails (String Mix). It also came with a DVD that featured a number of acoustic songs (My Throat Is An Open Grave, Driving Nails, Blood In the Tears and Down In A Hole, a new Alice In Chains cover from their classic 1992 album Dirt).

Desire the Pain is a criminally overlooked song and is not only one of the best songs on World Is A Thorn, but it is one of Demon Hunter’s best songs ever in my humble opinion. Desire the Pain is an emotional rollercoaster of a song with a worship-style feel to it, that tells the tale of how one can choose to life a Christ-like life where they desire the pains and burdens of life and what knowledge God brings through it. The song features a very unique vocal style for Ryan Clark that sits somewhere between a yell and a scream, as he stretches his aural abilities once again into new territory. It is a slower song, but not quite as slow as some others, but very different from anything else they’ve done. I absolutely love the chorus, which makes me feel like worshipping God everytime I hear it.

Metal Song of the Day – I Have Seen Where It Grows (Demon Hunter Month. Lyrics Included) From 2002 Self-Titled Album

I Have Seen Where It Grows by Demon Hunter is a song from their 2002 self-titled debut album.

I Have Seen Where It Grows starts off with a very cool intro and clips along at a pretty quick clip vocally. It is a very heavy song as well, classic Demon Hunter, with a very cool singable chorus and an extremely heavy outro that absolutely rocks your face off. The verses are very strong as well, and overall this is one of the strongest tracks on Demon Hunter’s 2002 self-titled debut album. I love the drumming on this track, and it remains among my favorite Demon Hunter songs in the bands 10 year history. This is the second track on the 10-track debut album. “I Have Seen Where It Grows” features a line that served as the title of Demon Hunter’s first Compilation album, “Death, A Destination“, which featured their self-titled, Summer of Darkness and Triptych albums. The line goes like this, “Life is a path. Death a destination.”

Incision by Demon Hunter, is a song from their 4th amazing album, Storm the Gates of Hell, released in 2007.

Incision is one of the most unique songs on Demon Hunter’s fourth full-length studio album, “Storm the Gates of Hell”. The drum beat opening is absolutely genius and one of my favorite intros on the album, but it also features a very unique vocal style that stretches Demon Hunter’s sound in different ways and ties it all up in beautiful fashion. I didn’t like Incision when I first heard, but it grew on me and I now consider it one of my favorite songs of this tremendously awesome album.

Ribcage by Demon Hunter, is a song from their 3rd monumental album, The Triptych, released in 2005.

Ribcage is classic Demon Hunter at their best, in my humble opinion. Just such an awesome sounding song, especially the way it starts out. Immense heaviness and absolutely awesome lyrics. The two verses are among my favorite Demon Hunter lyrics of all time! Absolutely fantastic! ENJOY!

Winter Song of the Day – The Wind (Demon Hunter Month. Lyrics Included)

The Wind by Demon Hunter, the band’s first Christmas song from the album Happy Christmas Volume 5 on Solid State Records, was released in 2010.

This song is an extremely slow, beautiful, atmospheric piece with amazing sung vocals straight through from beginning to end (no growls here); sung as only lead singer Ryan Clark can. With that full, deep voice that leaves you speechless in its rumbling nature. I love to hear Ryan sing in this style, and this song overall is a great winter piece for any occasion; and a perfect Christmas song to enjoy the Winter season. Just in time for the new year!

Metal Song of the Day – God Forsaken (Demon Hunter Month. Lyrics Included) From True Defiance Album (2012)

God Forsaken by Demon Hunter hails from their latest album, 2012’s True Defiance released on Solid State Records.

God Forsaken is an awesome song because it has a really singable chorus that takes the typical Demon Hunter sound in a different direction than what you are used to, while keeping the intensity with unique screamed vocals (different than Ryan’s typical growls) with a quick-spitted pace which evolves into the beautiful chorus. God Forsaken proves once again that Demon Hunter can do great choruses that make you want to sing along with the best of them, while keeping their heavy sound that Hunter’s know and love. God Forsaken also features a very beautiful musical portion near the end that really elevates the piece and a completely out-of-place but absolutely awesome instrumental heavy epilogue that ends a very interesting experience and one of True Defiance’s best songs.

A Broken Upper Hand by Demon Hunter hails from their self-titled debut album on Solid State Records, released in 2002.

A Broken Upper Hand is one of Demon Hunter’s most underrated and overlooked songs, it features a really unique vocal style and interesting music, it’s extremely intense, especially near the end, with cool lyrics like “You can’t rule with a broken upper-hand!” This song was the second-to-last song on their self-titled 2002 debut album, followed by Demon Hunter’s The Gauntlet song, which capped off the album beautifully.
