Good news for Netflix users and fans of subtitles. Netflix will caption all videos on its service by 2014 they have announced, at which point 100% of it’s previous content will have captions.
Netflix already provides subtitles on 82% of its videos, from films to TV Shows to Documentaries to Stand-Up Comedy to Anime, but is now bound to subtitle its entire library by 2014.
By 2013 they plan to have 90% of their library captioned, with 100% by 2014.
Following 2014, Netflix plans to have new content captioned within 30 days in 2014, within 14 days by 2015 and within 7 days by 2016.
Netflix shall strive to reach a point at which Conforming Captions are provided simultaneously with launch at all times and promises to make good faith, diligent efforts to get captions working on all devices.” Although Netflix is not obligated to make sure that 100% of devices work with captions.
All in all, this is great news for those of us who get most of our TV show watching via Netflix on our Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, PC, mobile or other device!
