WatchUsPlayGames Has Won the “1 Lovely Blog” Award! :D

Woohoo!!!! I was just informed that WatchUsPlayGames has won the “One Lovely Blog” Award!

This is a pretty big deal for this website, as I never thought I’d be the recepiant of any kind of award. It’s always great to have your stuff recognized. Out of 15 websites, WatchUsPlayGames placed an astounding third in the list of the Award giver! Thanks to the WordPress Community for recognizing Watch Us Play Games!

Here is what was said about WatchUsPlayGames for the award.

“An excellent approach of fun and entertainment blended with Christian truths.”

Thanks so much to Joyce for handing out this award to me! Please check out her website Life On Foot!

For winning, you are asked to provide some random facts about yourself. So here are odd and interesting facets about me.

1. I do several odd…. habits, that are wholly unique to me. Things I’ve never seen another human being do… among them are…. “plucking” my eyelashes. Now I can’t think of any other word to describe it, so it’s not what you think. I don’t pull them out. Instead I… well I pull them out with my fingers, and my eye makes this weird clicking noise… but all I’m doing is pulling, not with the intent to literally pluck it… I’ll sit there and do this for hours sometimes. :/ I think I started doing it while reading in third grade (reading a book) and never stopped. It drives my mom nuts. :P Another very odd thing I do is… I always keep a water bottle around, and I constantly use it to spray my face, hands and feet. Now I live in Phoenix, Arizona where it’s very hot, and many times in my life we had no air conditioning. So that might be where this came from. But even though I live in air-conditioning now, I still do it…. I also will use the condensation that builds up on a glass, and wet my eyes with it. Sometimes by lifting the glass to my face. Even in public. “:O” I know. lol. I told you I was odd.

2. I’m not a regular church goer. Now don’t get me wrong I have nothing against church and I will attend church on occasion and always enjoy it when I do. And I go through spurts sometimes where I will start going a lot. But I’ve never been a big church guy. A big part of the reason is because I’m a relative hermit, and I generally do not like to socialize with people especially if you are “forced” to. Many times simply the act of knowing I have to speak to others and interact with them, will keep me from going. Which is really bad, I try to break out of it by forcing myself to go despite that, but I really do lack proper social skills and have always struggled to socialize with others. I am definitely an introvert.

3. I do not like to hang out with people. I don’t know what it is, but “hanging out” comes extremely hard for me. Especially whenever I am the one entertaining, it’s even worse because I do not know what the heck I’m supposed to do with other people around. It’s a big life-fail IMHO, and something I need to learn how to be better at. But even when I do hang out with others a few times a month (typically with my brothers or sister), I always feel like I am “wasting time” that can be better spent online writing articles or at home playing a videogame or doing something else. Which is a bad way to look at it and I know it, but it’s just hard for me for some reason. The only time it’s not hard is if we are doing something specific, like going to see a movie or going to play a game or hang out for a set period of time or going to an event. Otherwise, I feel like all the idle chatter is just wasting away my time that I feel can be better spent doing something more productive. Annnnnd THAT’S why I’m a hermit. :P

4. I hate water and the taste of it, and absolutely refuse to drink water while eating something which has always been gross to me. It’s weird I suppose, but ugh. I just don’t like water. Nowadays I force myself to drink it, and if it’s filtered or certain brands I’m okay with it. But I cannot take the taste of tap water. I always chuckle when people say water doesn’t have a taste, cause I always can tell the difference between certain brands of bottled water and can usually tell if it’s tap water. They taste completely different from each other. When I was young I NEVER drunk water, I lived on soda. Very bad. I’ve really tried to tow down my soda intake but I still drink too much of it. But at least I always try to have a glass of water now and try to drink it throughout the day, having recently purchased a filter for my kitchen sink.

5. I love to stargaze, but I’ve never owned a telescope. Looking at the stars and the moon absolutely fascinates me (I was so upset I missed the Super Moon yesterday :(). What an amazing universe God created! How can you not be in awe and wonder about your own existence by considering the expanses of space? As soon as I am working again I plan on buying a telescope and really making use of it.

6. I am single and have never NOT been single. Yep…. sad, sad, sad. There are people who say I am the luckiest guy on Earth, but I certainly don’t feel like it. I think spending your life with someone is much preferred to being alone and lonely. Of course you can be alone and NOT be lonely, and I love and admire people like Condilezza Rice who can do that (how amazing she is!) but it’s extremely difficult to do so. Of course, having said that, I am generally content and perfectly fine being by myself all the time. It’s mostly nights that get to me. Since I do like a lot of girls and wish they would speak to me more. And it’s very depressing when they don’t. Although it seems extremely rare, it actually isn’t. As in reality I know several people who are in the same situation and have NEVER had a real serious girlfriend or never had a single one. I think there are also pluses and minuses to BOTH sides of the coin, as many people who do have someone or have had someone at different points, are not any better off. But I feel like I am missing out on a lot of the joys of life by being single…

7. My favorite color is Yellow. :) Yup, you don’t hear that everyday do ya. I’ve always been told it is extremely rare. And I usually get this reaction: “YELLOW?!” :P I prefer brighter yellow to darker yellow, but yellow is such a unique and beautiful color. How can you not love it? Also I love bananas, maybe that’s why I love yellow, eh. :P I still remember in gradeschool, teachers would always smile and seem be super happy that I liked yellow. I think it was because it was so unique and most kids gave in to the “peer pressure” to like a popular color like Red or Blue or Pink. And yet, I didn’t care about peer pressure then, and I don’t now. So I always stuck to my guns and followed through with Yellow as my favorite color. I also like… Pink. :) I am one of those guys who will proudly wear or have a pink object and I could care less what anyone thinks about it. ;)

8. One of my favorite TV shows is Power Rangers. I loved it in third grade and I still love it today. :)

9. The first band I ever fell in love with was DC Talk. When I was younger my parents kept me away from most secular music and anything that seemed harmful. As such, we always listened to Christian music. And man was DC Talk cool. DC Talk is arguably what got me into metal, thanks to their “heavier” fare like Jesus Freak and Supernatural. Of course, it is a far cry from metal, but it was heavier and I always loved that hard rock sound. And eventually that lead to discovering metal. For the record, I always hated the radio and I never liked secular music or had any desire to listen to it. I always thought most of it was extremely shallow crap. I was a smart kid, as I was mostly right. ;)

10. I never saw a horror movie until Wes Craven’s “Scream”. I was always kept away from horror movies and was never allowed to watch them. Even if I could, I had no desire too as I saw the inherent immaturity in people who liked horror movies and thought watching people get killed was fun. Even beyond that, I was always disturbed by the fact that girls got killed in those movies, and TO THIS DAY I do not like to see a girl get killed. That is one of the reasons why I hated “Kill Bill”. A girl doing the killing is irrelevant. What bothers me even more than the visuals is the audio. I did see various parts of horror movies before “Scream” though. Some that I saw included a Nightmare On Elm Street movie, a Candyman movie, and one of the few that I saw all the way through, was the early House series (which I still think are awesome to this day, actually. And EXTREMELY creepy). What’s odd is that I LOVE Survival Horror videogames. I think the reason I love videogame horror but not movie horror, is because it is not being acted out by real people. That kind of realism is what I don’t like. Although I do enjoy certain films that aren’t overtly gory and are more smart, like “The Ring”. My favorite videogame series include Resident Evil, Silent Hill & Fatal Frame, I love Survival Horror! Btw, when I first saw “Scream”, it scared me so badly that I could not walk by windows for THREE months and had to sleep with the light on. I was so scared that my mom would come and sleep with me. And I was in my teens. I think in some ways horror is more difficult for Christians, because they know the reality of the Spiritual world and demonic forces, and it is hard to understand the victory in Christ that we have when you are younger. For me, the thought of getting murdered and knowing it was a reality and happens on a daily basis, was always the scariest thought. And that what Scream made me constantly think about it. In this day and age, I’m long over it and I actually watch a lot of TV shows about seriel killers and the like. Although I still hate slasher films. And find the genre generally repulsive.

So there ya go. :)
