Pray For Tim Lambesis, As I Lay Dying’s Band Members And Saved Victim And Families Following Christian Meal Lead Singer’s Arrest On Attempted Murder-For-Hire Charge

Me and Friends With Nick Hippa of As I Lay Dying

That’s me in the Demon Hunter shirt with Nick Hippa guitarist for As I Lay Dying.

As you may know, As I Lay Dying lead vocalist Tim Lambesis has been arrested and charged with hiring a hitman to kill his estranged wife. That hit man was an undercover police officer, who was tipped off about the potential murder plot 7 days earlier.

Tim Lambesis was arrested in a Barnes N Noble on May 7th 2013 at 2:00pm on Vista Way in Oceanside, California. He had just returned from touring all over the world including including China, South Korea, Hong Kong, The Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand. The Grammy-winning Christian metal titans were set to tour with Killswitch Engage on May 30th, and As I Lay Dying won Loudwire’s Deathmatch Hall of Fame Award recently, on April 2nd, for getting four consecutive wins when pitted against other bands including Killswitch. All seemed to be looking up… Now this.

Tim Lambesis signing my brother’s guitar as seen in the above pic. It’s also signed by Demon Hunter, Becoming the Archetype, Haste the Day, The Showdown, Living Sacrifice and Norma Jean.

Here is the official As I Lay Dying Police press release from the San Diego Sheriff’s Office:

“Murder for Hire Plot Foiled – Lead Singer for As I Lay Dying Arrested: Tim Lambesis, lead singer and co-founder for the heavy metal band “As I Lay Dying”, was arrested without incident today, May 7 2013 at 2:00pm in a retail business on Vista Way in Oceanside. Lambesis is charged with “Solicitation of Another to Commit Murder.” Information came to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Dept. on May 2nd that Lambesis was soliciting another individual to kill his estranged wife, who resides in Encinitas. The Encinitas Detectives, The San Diego Fugitive Task Force and the Sheriff’s Special Investigation Division investigators immediately initiated an investigation. The investigation culminated this afternoon, when Lambesis solicited an undercover detective to kill his wife. He was then arrested, transported to the Encinitas Station, and booked into the Vista Detention Facility.”

Here is the official statement from As I Lay Dying (excluding Tim, naturally), who have not given any more details than this short statement, via label Metal Blade Records.

As I Lay Dying Official Band Statement On Tim’s Arrest:
“To our fans,
As we post this, the legal process is taking its course and we have no more information than you do. There are many unanswered questions, and the situation will become clearer in the coming days and weeks. We’ll keep you informed as best we can. Our thoughts right now are with Tim, his family, and with everyone else affected by this terrible situation – and with our fans, whom we love and draw strength from. Thank you for understanding, and as always, for your support of As I Lay Dying.”
– Jordan Mancino, Nick Hipa, Phil Sgrosso and Josh Gilbert

Nick As I Lay Dying

Once again, this time with Nick. Whom they were squealing over.

Tim Lambesis appeared in court today, May 9th 2013 at 1:30PM for his arraignment, where he will be read his charges of: “Solicitation to Commit Murder” and “Conspiracy To Commit Crime”. Reportedly he will be facing 20 years to life if convicted. Considering that he solicited an undercover cop, it’s expected that he will be fully convicted and found guilty based on the evidence. Of course he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, and no specific details are known about the situation.

Tim Lambesis, 32 years of age, married his wife Meggan Murphy in 2004, and she divorced him in September of 2012. Some reports say he wanted the divorce and asked for it, not her. They have three adopted children, ages 4, 8 and 10 (two girls and a boy), from Ethiopia. Tim had said this about his kids in an interview with Loudwire earlier this year, “My kids are adopted and I’ve visited their country – they’re from Ethiopia and that was eye opening to what the world is really like, at least a third of the world. I think that just influences my entire world view even if I’m not necessarily writing a song about humanitarian work, I’m writing a song about what truly makes us happy in life and those types of think that have been influenced by my experiences.”

In the divorce papers filed, his wife describes recent alarming changes in Tim’s behavior and lack of parenting as reasons for the divorce. This included Tim Lambesis becoming “obsessed with body building”, spending “thousands of dollars on tattoos”, and often being distracted by other things when he was supposed to be looking after the kids; including often texting, talking on the phone and napping. He even fell asleep while they were at the beach on one occassion so say the papers. She also stated that his intense touring schedule meant he only spent 10 hours per week with the kids and was gone for months on tour. Although he saw the kids less after they split up and were no longer living together. The couple split amicably and agreed to private mediation to get child custody figured out. She also claimed however that he twice went to visit a girlfriend across the country.

However, as always in these cases, all of this is only one side of the story, and relationships are often complicated and full of issues, especially for someone as busy as Tim. However that is IN NO WAY any excuse for what Tim has now done. Some say he could be suffering from side-effects of steroids and too much protein intake, which can cause “rage” in certain individuals. And Tim buffed up quickly and become obsessed with protein (as he talks about in his workout videos you can see online) and working out. Could that have messed with his head? Or was a lethal cocktail of protein/steroids, touring, stress, legal battles with his ex-wife and the kids, and burnout from constant across the world touring. But who knows, this is all speculation.

I am completely broken apart by this story and my heart is truly wounded. Tim Lambesis, as others have stated, was one of the most down to earth and nicest guys you’d ever meet. And one of the most genuine personalities in metal. This news is shocking, disturbing, and sad beyond belief. Although I am not a HUGE fan of As I Lay Dying, I have been following the band since their debut album Frail Words Collapse, which I listened to online back in the day. That lead me to purchasing Shadows Are Security the day it came out, and I’ve been a fan ever since. I often listen to their songs and videos, although I did not get around to purchasing neither The Powerless Rise, Decas or Awakened (yet). For some odd reason, even though I listened to some of those albums online and several of my friends and brothers raved about The Powerless Rise when it came out. I love all the lyric videos for Awakened and all the songs I’ve heard so far. I remain a fan of the band although I don’t count them among my top favorites (which belongs to Demon Hunter, Becoming the Archetype and The Showdown. Most of my favorite bands are from Solid State, not Metal Blade or any other label and are more blatantly Christian and outspoken in their faith).

But even more than that, I respected and loved Tim Lambesis so much as the frontman and vocalist for the person he is. I saw the band in concert, and met with Tim and Nick outside the tour bus here in Phoenix, Arizona. I got my picture taken with Tim and Nick, Tim signed my brother’s bass guitar and we talked with them and they were very friendly. We were star struck. I feel like I know them after seeing so many interviews, seeing them in person, taking photos with them and watching the DVD documentary for “This Is Who We Are” with all my friends (all of the ones seen in the photos above).

Here are some of my comments in the aftermath of this HORRIBLE tragedy.

Comment #1: Oh no…. Holy crap. Pray that something is amiss here… Tim Lambesis, lead singer of As I Lay Dying, has just been charged and arrested for allegedly putting a hit out on his wife. :( Very, very tragic. Let’s hope his wife is okay, and pray for Tim. He’s gonna need it if this proves out to be true…. I hope to God this isn’t true.

Comment #2: It’s true, here is the official press release from the San Diego Sheriff’s office (website: http://www.sdsheriff.net/). Scroll down and click on “Murder for Hire Plot Foiled (Posted: 5/7/2013 5:00:49 PM)” and the PDF will download. I’ll type it out here I guess:

“Murder for Hire Plot Foiled – Lead Singer for As I Lay Dying Arrested: Tim Lambesis, lead singer and co-founder for the heavy metal band “As I Lay Dying”, was arrested without incident today, May 7 2013 at 2:00pm in a retail business on Vista Way in Oceanside. :( Can’t believe it. So tragic. Pray for everyone involved.

Comment #3: Thank you guys for issuing an official statement. All I hope now is that we will actually hear from Tim himself, and get some kind of explanation. Even if it is true, I want to hear from him, so we can begin the healing process and the process of supporting him through this. In all of this we must not forget the victim as well and Tim’s family. And we must continue to pray for and support the band. I plan on writing Tim in prisonl, and I hope this is a life-changing event for the better. Even though he made the most tragic of mistakes that he can’t come back from, God can and will use this to change him for the better. Darkness took it’s hold this time and he gave into it’s power to destroy and consume. But it won’t win again after he’s done. At least that’s my prayer. All of us can give into that darkness and ruin our lives, people do it all the time. And it’s not rare for great men to fall and give into it. Now all we can do is hope, pray and support Tim and the band. I hope you guys, Nick, Jordan, Phil and Josh will continue the band and find someone to replace Tim. It’s sad, tragic, heartwrenching and will not be the same, since Tim WAS the band. But band’s often replace lead singers. Look at Killswitch Engage. You can come back from this if you desire too. However given the circumstances, I wouldn’t be surprised if any of you never want to play music again following this heartbreaking event. But you have my back and my support if you do. To Tim and the guys, Godspeed. Your true fans are behind you 100%, and Tim we forgive you. You must now pay the piper, but we’ll be rooting for your recovery. You’re in my prayers.

Here is one of the last interviews Tim Lambesis gave before his arrest from February of 2013. Ironically he talks about very dark subjects, including horror movies.

Their newest album, Awakened, was a lot darker than previous albums and a lot more personal. If you listen to it in retrospect, Tim often talks about his demons and a darkside, and some of the lyrics are really prophetic. One of the most prophetic and telling is the song “Cauterize”. It’s main chorus goes like this,

“I’m caught between the feeling. Of being pulled apart. Or stuffed into a cell.” – Wow.

At the bridge things get even deeper down the rabbit hole, when Tim says, “And now I am a patient on the table.” The song goes on to say, speaking to God, “I’ll give you the knife… Cut away as you see fit. Just promise me the patience. To wait for me to heal.” Followed by the chorus again, “I’m caught between the feeling. Of being pulled apart. Or stuffed into a cell.”

*sigh* Pray faithful soldiers. PRAY!

Song of the Day – So Help Me God (DC Talk Month. Lyrics Included) From Supernatural Album

Today’s DC Talk Month Song of the Day is “So Help Me God” from their 1995 album Jesus Freak. This song is track #1 of 13.

So Help Me God is the first track from DC Talk’s monumental album “Jesus Freak”, and opens the album quite nicely. In my humble opinion, So Help Me God is the only song from Jesus Freak that sounds like it could’ve been from Free At Last, in that way it transitions well into the rest of the album and kind of acts like a bridge from Free At Last’s hip-hop sound to their more modern rock sound on Jesus Freak. I absolutely love the chorus for this song!

So Help Me God DC Talk Song Lyrics

Hoping, praying, I’ve been waiting
Everybody needs somebody to love
There’s no question, straight from heaven
You’re my angel, I’m so crazy for you

(chorus)
You’re a Godsend
A blessing from above
You’ve been God-sent to me
You’re the Godsend
I’ve been dreaming of
You’re a Godsend

Holding your hand, touching your face
I will love you now and always I swear
I will never forget that first moment we met
When two worlds collided and I found my best friend

(repeat chorus)

(bridge)
I was made for you, you were made for me
In this lonely world, we were meant to be in love

I will never forget that first moment we met
When two worlds, they crashed in
And I found my best friend

(repeat chorus)

Song of the Day – I Wish We’d All Been Ready (DC Talk Month. Lyrics Included) From Intermission Album

Today’s DC Talk Month Song of the Day is “I Wish We’d All Been Ready” from their 2001 album Intermission. This song is track #16 of 19.

“I Wish We’d All Been Ready” is one of the four total new songs on Intermission: The Greatest Hits, released in 2001. This song however is recorded live, and isn’t studio like the two truly new songs (Chance and Sugercoat It). This song is very powerful, and tells a tale of the Rapture when the church will be taken from the Earth and tells of the everyday situation people will be in when it happens. Like the title says, “I wish we’d all been ready.” An absolutely beautiful, touching, sad song that really makes you think, hope and pray. Not to mention inspire you to tell others about The Second Coming!

I Wish We’d All Been Ready DC Talk Song Lyrics

Life was filled with guns and war
And all of us got trampled on the floor
I wish we’d all been ready
Children died the days grew cold
A piece of bread could buy a bag of gold
I wish we’d all been ready

There’s no time to change your mind
The Son has come and you’ve been left behind

A man and wife asleep in bed
She hears a noise and turns her head he’s gone
I wish we’d all been ready
Two men walking up a hill
One disappears and one’s left standing still
I wish we’d all been ready

There’s no time to change your mind
The Son has come and you’ve been left behind

Children died the days grew cold
A piece of bread could buy a bag of gold
I wish we’d all been ready

There’s no time to change your mind
The Son has come and you’ve been left behind

The Father spoke the demons died
How could you have been so blind

There’s no time to change your mind
The Son has come and you’ve been left behind

I hope we’ll all be ready you’ve been left behind
I hope we’ll all be ready you’ve been left behind
I hope we’ll all be ready you’ve been left behind

Song of the Day – Mind’s Eye (DC Talk Month. Lyrics Included) From Jesus Freak Album

Today’s DC Talk Month Song of the Day is “Mind’s Eye” from their 1995 album Jesus Freak. This song is track #12 of 13 and is the closing song on the record (the last track being an interlude).

Mind’s Eye is a great tune that deals with faith, and likens belief in God to the way the wind works. You can see the effects of the wind, but you can’t actually see the wind. As with God, you can see the effects of God in people and the way Christ transforms lives, but the mystery is in the fact that you don’t physically see God. I absolutely love this song, it has a very smooth sound to it and I love the instrumentation.

Mind’s Eye DC Talk Song Lyrics

You know what I’m going through
I know that it’s true
Cause you’ve stood in my shoes
Desire’s inside of me
But, it’s hard to believe
In what you cannot see

Can you catch the wind?
See a breeze?
It’s presence is revealed by the leaves on a tree
An image of my faith in the unseen

In my mind’s eye
I see Your face
You smile
As You show me grace

In my mind’s eye
You take my hand
We walk through foreign lands
The foreign lands of life

In my mind
I’m where I belong
As I rest in Your arms
And like a child I hold on to you
In my moment of truth
Yes I do

We can ride the storm
Endure the pain
You comfort me in my hurricane
And I’ll never be alone again

Can you catch the wind?
Can you see the breeze?

In my mind I can see Your face
Love pours down in a shower of grace
Life is a gift that You choose to give
And I believe that we eternally live
Faith is the evidence of things unseen
People tell me that You’re just a dream
But they don’t know you the way that I do
You’re the one I live to pursue

Bible Verse of the Day – A Man’s Wisdom Gives Him Patience; It Is To His Glory To Overlook An Offense (Proverbs: 19:11)

“A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense.” – The Old Testament, Proverbs 19:11

I absolutely love the way the Bible puts this, from the NIV. “It is to his glory to overlook an offense.”

That is the way that one should conduct their life. Take no offense from anyone, no matter what it is that they do. And be proud of the fact that your strength in Christ and your knowledge of Biblical Wisdom, gives you the ability to overlook offenses; something that the world will often not even attempt to do. But instead will revel in getting revenge, keeping a grudge, and answering an offense with an offense equal to the person who slighted them. (Secular rap culture, I’m looking at you!)

This is an amazing verse, and a very wise one indeed.

Metal Songs of the Day – March of the Dead, Into Oblivion, Epoch Of War, Mountain of Souls, Resonant Frequency of Flesh, Magnetic Sky, Ocean Walker (Becoming the Archetype Month)

Becoming the Archetype Torches Bandmates Photo ShootToday’s Metal Songs of the Day are Becoming the Archetype’s March of the Dead/Into Oblivion+Epoch of War+Mountain of Souls+The Resonant Frequency of Flesh/The Magnetic Sky+The Ocean Walker all together in one massive earth-obliterating song to kick off Becoming the Archetype Month (February 2013) with a bang!

In case you didn’t notice, the 1st of February kicks BtA Month off nicely by including the album opener for each of Becoming the Archetype’s five full-length albums, starting with their debut album “Terminate Damnation” and its intro “The March of the Dead” followed by the opening song “Into Oblivion”. Next up is “Epoch of War”, the opening song from Becoming the Archetype’s sophomore album “The Physics of Fire”, followed by “Mountain of Souls”, the opener from their third landmark album (and the greatest Christian metal album of all time IMHO), “Dichotomy”. That is followed by “The Resonant Frequency of Flesh” and “The Magnetic Sky”, the intro and opening of BtA’s fourth full-length album, “Celestial Completion”. Last but not least, we have the opening song from the band’s fifth full-length album “I AM”, “The Ocean Walker”. If you never heard of Becoming the Archetype before, this will surely awaken you to their greatness and give you a mega-awesome slice of their progression in sound from one album to the next, ending with I AM which features a new lead singer in Chris McCane who replaced BtA founder and vocalist Jason Wisdom, yet still managed to create a flat-out incredible album.

Be sure to check out my Becoming the Archetype I AM album review.

Here are song lyrics for each of the Becoming the Archetype album opener’s!

MARCH OF THE DEAD (Instrumental)

INTO OBLIVION

It hurts to see you live you life revolving around death
And to see your heart when I can’t see your face
So far away
One foot in front of the other, step to the right
Time has it’s way and I’ll be right here waiting for you

EPOCH OF WAR (The Physics of Fire Part 3)

The number of men who carried the flame continued to increase
And a massive force was gathered just outside the prison
Where the evil one had trapped the souls of men
And with a sounding trumpet
In an instant the siege was underway
The forces of humanity swarmed the enemy camp
They stormed the gates relentlessly
Waving their torches and shouting together
There is none that can stand against the power of fire

MOUNTAIN OF SOULS

I AM A GHOST
A phantom in a solid world

Standing at
The foothills of FOREVER . . .
With no strength to carry on

Every step I take
SHINES LIGHT
On my defective state, but I won’t ever fade away

ETERNITY
Is black and white
And I’ve been living IN BETWEEN (Another shade of gray)

Put your arms around me
Lift me up so I can see

The MOUNTAIN of SOULS
The RIVER of BLOOD

Bury me in the river
That flows with blood FOREVER

Carry me up to the mountain
Where the sacrifice was made

Where through a pool of light
We experience . . . .
SPACES

THE RESONANT FREQUENCY OF FLESH

There was a time
When we all sang the song of death
But now our bodies resonate
Our living souls reverberate
The music of eternal light

THE MAGNETIC SKY

Here at the end of the world
Planets fall and we are rising
Soul and sky are magnetizing
Here at the end of the world
We are witnessing together
The inception of forever
Time begins to bend
And then it breaks
When it s all gone
We ll be movin on, movin on
Rising
Magnetizing
Lift the earth and like a wave
Carry us to shore
What a perfect
What a beautiful emptiness
And we will live forevermore
Crush the mountain in your hand
Drink the ocean dry
What a perfect
What a beautiful emptiness
To know that we will never die
A world within a world
A life that blooms in death
The blade that severs cleanly
Takes away the need for breath
A hand within a hand
A window in the eye
The heart becomes irrelevant
When the blood is on the outside
We have come alive
In this magnetic sky
We have come alive
And death shall be no more
This is what we were created for

THE OCEAN WALKER

I WALKED
I walked
Across the ocean
To the island
Of the DEAD
I CLIMBED
I climbed the mighty tidal wave
All other
MEN HAVE DREAD

I alone am standing…
Standing in a
world of SILENCE

The TSUNAMI and the HURRICANE
BOW DOWN

I alone am standing…
Standing in a
world of SILENCE

The TSUNAMI and the HURRICANE
BOW DOWN
Bow down at my COMMAND

All the oceans
ALL THE OCEANS filled with DEATH
I have CONSUMED
In a single BREATH
I AM THE FOUNTAINHEAD!
I AM THE FOUNTAINHEAD!
I AM THE FOUNTAINHEAD!
I'M BRINGING. BACK. THE. DEAD.
I AM THE FOUNTAINHEAD!
I AM THE FOUNTAINHEAD!
I AM THE FOUNTAINHEAD!
BRINGING. BACK. THE. DEAD.

About Becoming the Archetype Month
February 2013 is dedicated to the Christian metal band Becoming the Archetype, arguably my favorite band (Along with Demon Hunter and The Showdown, both signed to Solid State Records) and follows January 2013 which was Demon Hunter Month. February will feature songs from BtA’s entire catalog featured daily throughout the month, one a day. Whether you like metal, believe in God or not, check these songs out as you may be pleasantly surprised and hopefully you will discover some new-to-your-ears music to enjoy. Becoming the Archetype’s sound is extremely heavy, and metalheads will be in Heaven. However all songs are deep with powerful lyrics that will make you think and ponder, as the sound takes you to new spaces between time and existence, Heaven and Hell. Enjoy!

Martin Luthor King Jr. Encouraging Quote of the Day – Like Anybody I Would Like To Live A Long Life. Longevity Has Its Place. But I’m Not Concerned About That Now. I Just Want To Do God’s Will. And He’s Allowed Me To Go Up To the Mountain. And I’ve Looked Over. And I’ve Seen the Promised Land

Martin Luthor King Jr. MLK Great Quote Gods Will Over Longevity to the Promised Land

Absolutely awe-inspiring words from someone who walked the walk and carried his cross.

“Like Anybody I Would Like To Live A Long Life. Longevity Has Its Place. But I’m Not Concerned About That Now. I Just Want To Do God’s Will. And He’s Allowed Me To Go Up To the Mountain. And I’ve Looked Over. And I’ve Seen the Promised Land.” Celebrate MLK’s inspiring Spirit of God with this amazing quote.

The pulse of Christ pumped through this man in so many powerful ways. His thinking was profound beyond human understanding. That’s because he yielded his life to the guide of the Holy Spirit, allowing God to speak through him and change the world. This quote gives me shivers.

If you’ve ever seen the last speech that MLK ever gave, the Holy Spirit was literally dripping off this man. According to interviews with a guy who was with MLK the day he was assassinated, he told people that MLK was the giddiest he had ever seen him. In fact he said Martin Luthor King was actually playful. So playful in fact that he started a pillow fight! This was completely unlike MLK, who was usually stoic and serious. He said this was manifest evidence to him that MLK was divinely inspired and knew that it was his last day on Earth. And even in the midst of that impending doom, he had the joy of Christ. A joy only the peace of God brings. This is from first-hand accounts. You can believe whatever you want to believe, but its clear to people who were there that God flowed through Martin Luthor King Jr. in powerful, powerful ways.

Metal Song of the Day – Relentless Intolerance (Demon Hunter Month. Lyrics Included) From The Triptych Album (2005)

Relentless Intolerance by Demon Hunter is a song from their third full-length album, 2005’s The Triptych.

Badass intro, eh? One of the best on the album (and that’s high praise!). Relentless Intolerance is one of the most overtly Christian songs from Demon Hunter, outright and with no mincing of words, condemning those who believe The Bible is an outdated book for an outdated faith with no place in this world. Instead of working our way forwards by embracing the truth of the Word of God, we are working our way backwards by embracing that which damns the soul. True to the name, this is a heavy song with a very cool driving beat to it that I absolutely love. Relentless Intolerance also features an amazing sung chorus that is extremely singable and will definitely have you humming along. This song, along with “The Science of Lies”, are two of my favorite songs on The Triptych album that are often overlooked IMHO, and both complement each other well; working like two sides of the same coin in terms of subject matter. “Believe the Words that stand the test of time / Not the slurs of the youth” Damn straight!

Lyrics:

These eyes, they will gaze and reflect
And gauge every thought I reject
No sway of stance in changing times
Just a narrow mind commanding respect
We stand on the words of the wise
And languish every call to despise
We know the hollow wound of their lies

No reformed edition
Never losing vision
Now into forever
Only getting better
Ways of now, spiral down
How much more we allow

Keeping sight of the vow we made
Holding fast to the hope
So when we stand in the line of wrath
The true and righteous will know

The foundation that we used to uphold
Now regarded as the madness of old
Every alteration made to the standard of truth
Is a nail in the coffin we hold
We embody everything they despise
Because they see us through degenerate eyes
So when they cast you down as intolerant filth
Stand firm, never bow to the lies

No reformed edition
Never losing vision
Now into forever
Only getting better
Ways of now, spiral down
How much more we allow

Keeping sight of the vow we made
Holding fast to the hope
So when we stand in the line of wrath
The true and righteous will know

See the scorn inside my eyes

Keeping sight of the vow we made
Holding fast to the hope
So when we stand in the line of wrath
The true and righteous will know
