Today’s DC Talk Month Song of the Day is “Luv Is A Verb”, from their 1992 Free At Last album. This is track #1 of 17.
A banging, rocking, hop-hoppin’ track from DC Talk’s 1992 landmark album. This song is great even today. I absolutely love how much energy this song has, and all the weird “ping-pong”-ing sounds and the “POW!” and “BOOM!” exclamations spoken throughout. I <3 it! :D
Luv Is A Verb DC Talk Song Lyrics
Intro
Down with the DC Talk, Down with the DC Talk
Are you down with the DC Talk, Down with the DC Talk
Verse 1
Pullin’ out my big black book
‘Cause when I need a word defined
That’s where I look
So I move to the “L’s” quick, fast, in a hurry
Threw on my specs, thought my vision was blurry
I looked again but to my dismay
It was black and white with no room for gray
Ya see a big “V” stood beyond my word
And yo that’s when it hit me That Luv is a verb
B Verse
Words come easy but they don’t mean much
When the words they’re sayin’ we can’t put trust in
We’re talkin’ bout Luv in a different light
And if we all learn to Luv it would be just right
CHORUS:
Hey, tell me haven’t you heard
Luv is serious word
Hey, I think it’s time ya learned
I don’t care what ya say
I don’t care what ya heard
The word Luv
Luv is a verb
– Intro –
Verse 2
Thinkin of a way to explain-o
‘Cause ya knowin’ that I’m flowin’ like a bottle of Drain-o
Simple and plain L-O-V-E
Ain’t all that junk that ya see on TV
Put soaps on a rope ’cause they ain’t worth cope’n
With it’s a myth that there ain’t no hope and
Luv is enough if it’s unconditionally
Given now ya livin’ out the Great Commission
– B Verse –
Verse 3
Back in the day there was a man
Who stepped outta heaven and He walked the land
He delivered to the people an eternal choice
With a heart full of luv and The Truth in his voice
Gave up his life so that we might live
How much more luv could the son of God give
Here is the example that we oughtta be matchin’
‘Cause luv is a word that requires some action
– B Verse –
(Chorus)

About DC Talk Month
March 2013 is dedicated to the Christian rock pioneers DC Talk, arguably my favorite Christian CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) rock band and follows January 2013 which was Demon Hunter Month and February 2013 which was Becoming the Archetype Month. March will feature songs from most of dc Talk’s discography (1992’s Free At Last, 1995’s Jesus Freak, 1998’s Supernatural and 2000’s Intermission) featured daily throughout the month, one a day. Whether you like rock/alternative/hip-hop music, believe in God or not, check these songs out as you may be pleasantly surprised and hopefully you will discover some new-to-your-ears music to enjoy. DC Talk features lots of variety in their tunes, from hard rock to hip-hop to slow ballads that will pull on your heartstrings to singable power pop, so there will most certainly be something you’ll like.
