“A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.” – The Old Testament, Proverbs 29:11
This verse is very straightforward. While anger can be justified, indeed even God gets angry, giving full vent to that anger without showing restraint is a very foolish thing to do. If you are a wise man, you are very slow to anger, and it takes a great deal to set you off. And even if you do get set off, keeping yourself under control is the embodiment of wisdom.
Do you remember the story of the Amish who visited a child murderer’s family and prayed with and for them after the Amish School Shooting, literally hours after he had murdered their children? That, is the embodiment of this verse. And the embodiment of Godly love. They had every right to be angry and to hate. And they admitted to being angry. But they also had Biblical wisdom, and knew that God forgives and God loves. He calls us to love even when there is no clear reason to love. You love, and that love trumps your anger, because it is a commandment from God to love our fellow man. It does not say to love them only when they are doing right, or doing what you approve of. Quite the opposite in fact. Judgment is God’s, our commandment is to Love.
Beyond Adaptation by Becoming the Archetype is track #7 from Becoming the Archetype’s debut full-length album, 2005’s Terminate Damnation.
The first few lines of Beyond Adaptation are absolutely amazing, “I bear these scars/ a constant reminder of my own inadequacy” and the way that Jason Wisdom screams those lines will have your attention from the first breath. This is another great song from their debut album.
Beyond Adaptation lyrics by Becoming the Archetype:
I bear these scars
A constant reminder of my own inadequacy
I’ve held everything and nothing all at once
And all at once been altogether broken
But even scars fade with time
Only You remain
And my determination is not enough
Even so, I bear these scars
About Becoming the Archetype Month
February 2013 is dedicated to the Christian metal band Becoming the Archetype, arguably my favorite band (Along with Demon Hunter and The Showdown, both signed to Solid State Records) and follows January 2013 which was Demon Hunter Month. February will feature songs from BtA’s entire catalog featured daily throughout the month, one a day. Whether you like metal, believe in God or not, check these songs out as you may be pleasantly surprised and hopefully you will discover some new-to-your-ears music to enjoy. Becoming the Archetype’s sound is extremely heavy, and metalheads will be in Heaven. However all songs are deep with powerful lyrics that will make you think and ponder, as the sound takes you to new spaces between time and existence, Heaven and Hell. Enjoy!
“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” – The Old Testament, Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)
I was watching an amazing movie the other day (for the first time) that you’ve probably heard of, called “The Shawshank Redemption”. It is one of those movies that I have heard a lot about, but never paid attention. A friend showed it to me, and it was one of the most beautiful movies I’ve ever seen.
As the credits rolled and tears filled my eyes at the final triumphant scene, this verse came to mind. In my estimation, the main character of the film, had faith. While Morgan Freeman’s character had hope. There is a huge difference between the two. Faith is the most powerful thing, and gives you the ability to accomplish the impossible, even when the impossible is seemingly, just that, an impossibility.
Endure by Becoming the Archetype is track #8 from Becoming the Archetype’s second full-length album, 2007’s Physics of Fire.
Endure is an intense single from Becoming the Archetype’s second sophomore album, The Physics of Fire, and the first single. It’s also the first song to get an official music video from the band, which you can check out below. Endure is an awesome song with awesome lyrics, it’s extremely intense and fast paced, showing off well the new death metal style that BtA went into with their second album. It also features an awesome solo towards the end.
Endure lyrics by Becoming the Archetype:
This life is an open wound that will not heal
I cry out to God with all of my strength
Desperately I reach for Him in the night
This misery keeps my eyes from closing
Keeps my mouth from being able to speak
Is this as far as the arm of God extends
Has the fire burned itself out
There is no profit in this way of thinking
I must escape this frame of mind
And when I think of all He has done
When I consider all that He is
I am complete

A real life empty tomb in this fascinating photograph. Just the thought of a tomb is so awesome to me. Can you imagine if we buried people in tombs like that today? And you rolled stones in front of them as “doors”. :D
“A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense.” – The Old Testament, Proverbs 19:11
I absolutely love the way the Bible puts this, from the NIV. “It is to his glory to overlook an offense.”
That is the way that one should conduct their life. Take no offense from anyone, no matter what it is that they do. And be proud of the fact that your strength in Christ and your knowledge of Biblical Wisdom, gives you the ability to overlook offenses; something that the world will often not even attempt to do. But instead will revel in getting revenge, keeping a grudge, and answering an offense with an offense equal to the person who slighted them. (Secular rap culture, I’m looking at you!)
This is an amazing verse, and a very wise one indeed.
The Time Bender by Becoming the Archetype is track #2 from Becoming the Archetype’s fifth full-length album, 2012’s I AM.
The first single off of I AM and one of the most epic tracks on an absolutely incredible album is “The Time Bender”. This epic piece of awesome metal tells of God’s power and might, and the way in which the Father bends time to His will, and creates whatever He desires in a way that defies human explanation. To the Almighty, dark is light and light is dark, what we perceive as law is undone with a blink. Overall this song is absolutely epic and a true testament to the evolving, heavy sound that Becoming the Archetype is known for.
The Time Bender lyrics by Becoming the Archetype:
TIME BENDER
Traversing the INFINITE
Transcending the EVIDENT
Watch as REALITY
Bends TO MY WILL
Navigating ETERNITY
Dispatching UNCERTAINTY
Navigating ETERNITY
Behold in my presence
TIME STANDING STILL
I AM
THE FUTURE
I AM
THE PAST
I HAVE SEEN YOU BREATH.YOUR.LAST.
Navigating ETERNITY
Dispatching UNCERTAINTY
NAVIGATING ETERNITY
Behold in my presence
TIME STANDING STILL
I AM THE END
I AM THE START
I AM HOLDING YOUR.BEATING.HEART
DAY is NIGHT
DARK is LIGHT
ETERNALLY SELF EXISTENT
Traversing the INFINITE
Transcending the EVIDENT
Watch as REALITY
BENDS TO MY WILL
I AM
THE FUTURE
I AM
THE PAST
I HAVE SEEN YOU BREATH.YOUR.LAST.
