Final Fantasy III DS Remake Out Now For Kindle Fire, PSP PlayStation Network, Android, iOS (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad). Coming Soon To Ouya

Final Fantasy III Kindle Fire DS Port Crystal Screenshots

The crystal adventure comes to more portable systems than ever before!

Final Fantasy III is out now for Kindle Fire & Kindle Fire HD (via Amazon), PlayStation Network for PSP (PS Vita too?), Anroid devices (Google Play), iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) and will be coming soon to Ouya, the next-gen Kickstarter-developed Anroid-based game system as a launch title.

All of these are the polygonal 3D DS remake version of Final Fantasy III, originally released in 2006 as a DS exclusive. The original Final Fantasy III was released in Japan only for the Famicon (Japanese NES), so Western audiences only ever got to see the new-and-improved version.

This version featured a complete polygonal 3D graphical overhaul, all-new CG cinematics, formerly generic, nameless party members were replaced with REAL characters who had concrete personalities and real back stories, with all-new scenes added to introduce them and build a connection between players and the main characters. Additional new subcharacters join your party throughout the game and may participate in battle (unlike in the original). Even with all of these changes, the main storyline for the game remained the same.

A major overhaul was added to Final Fantasy III’s unique “Job System”, updates included rebalancing the classes, all-new abilities that could be learned, a new “Freelancer” class that replaced the previous “Onion Knight” class that was a default at the start (Onion Knight could be unlocked later on through a sidequest), all-new events were added, a new Crystal was added alongside a new Dungeon, and Capacity Points were removed. Thanks to the improved balancing, many jobs retain their usefulness from beginning to end. Fully Mastering jobs also yielded all-new job specific items. A small penalty for switching jobs that decreases your stats was added in place of the Capacity Points from before. A new interrupt save option allowed players to do a Quick Save, so they could turn their DS off and return later. Although doing a permanent save in a dungeon was still not permitted.

A new Mail/Mognet system was added that took advantage of the DS wi-fi and online capabilities. This allows you to send and receive mail to in-game characters, as well as to other players, and leads to unlocking new secrets in the game (and is similar to the Moogle System in Final Fantasy IX). The Onion Knight Quest can only be unlocked by using the Mognet system.

Freakin’ awesome chocobo wallpaper from Final Fantasy III!

This lead to the newer ports of the DS version of Final Fantasy III for other systems. Final Fantasy III was released for iOS Apple devices on March 24 2011. This version features improved graphics even over the DS version and remastered, updated sound and music. However a few changes were made, the Mognet/Moogle Mail system was removed completely, as such the Onion Knight is unlocked via a different quest than in the DS version.

The Anroid version of Final Fantasy III was released on Google Play for Android devices in June of 2012. This version doesn’t feature any new features however, and includes the same features as the iOS version.

Next up, is the PSP version of the game released on September 30th 2012. The PlayStation Network version of Final Fantasy III features graphics optimized for the 16:9 PSP screen, an image gallery, an option to switch to the original background music, and an auto-battle system that doubles the speed of combat.

Finally you have the Kindle and Kindle Fire HD versions of the game released in the Amazon App Store. This version has been specifically optimized for play on the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD and features improved 3-D graphics, taking full advantage of the platform’s capabilities. Additionally, the intuitive touch-panel controls have been adjusted, making the game smoother and easier than ever to play.

As already stated, the game will also be coming to Ouya as a launch title, although details on what differences will appear in that version (or not) have not been revealed.

Story
Protected by the crystals of light, the once-peaceful land has forever been changed by the great tremor. Without warning, the earthquake pulled the crystals into the earth, upsetting the world’s fragile balance. It seems as if all hope is lost – but as the Gulgan prophecy foretold, four souls blessed with the light shall once again restore balance to the world…

Near the small village of Ur, fate guides Luneth to a sentient crystal that changes his life forever. As the light of the crystal fades, Luneth embarks on a journey with three others who share his destiny to search for the remaining crystals, and fight the battle of light and darkness…

Metal Song of the Day – Relentless Intolerance (Demon Hunter Month. Lyrics Included) From The Triptych Album (2005)

Relentless Intolerance by Demon Hunter is a song from their third full-length album, 2005’s The Triptych.

Badass intro, eh? One of the best on the album (and that’s high praise!). Relentless Intolerance is one of the most overtly Christian songs from Demon Hunter, outright and with no mincing of words, condemning those who believe The Bible is an outdated book for an outdated faith with no place in this world. Instead of working our way forwards by embracing the truth of the Word of God, we are working our way backwards by embracing that which damns the soul. True to the name, this is a heavy song with a very cool driving beat to it that I absolutely love. Relentless Intolerance also features an amazing sung chorus that is extremely singable and will definitely have you humming along. This song, along with “The Science of Lies”, are two of my favorite songs on The Triptych album that are often overlooked IMHO, and both complement each other well; working like two sides of the same coin in terms of subject matter. “Believe the Words that stand the test of time / Not the slurs of the youth” Damn straight!

Lyrics:

These eyes, they will gaze and reflect
And gauge every thought I reject
No sway of stance in changing times
Just a narrow mind commanding respect
We stand on the words of the wise
And languish every call to despise
We know the hollow wound of their lies

No reformed edition
Never losing vision
Now into forever
Only getting better
Ways of now, spiral down
How much more we allow

Keeping sight of the vow we made
Holding fast to the hope
So when we stand in the line of wrath
The true and righteous will know

The foundation that we used to uphold
Now regarded as the madness of old
Every alteration made to the standard of truth
Is a nail in the coffin we hold
We embody everything they despise
Because they see us through degenerate eyes
So when they cast you down as intolerant filth
Stand firm, never bow to the lies

No reformed edition
Never losing vision
Now into forever
Only getting better
Ways of now, spiral down
How much more we allow

Keeping sight of the vow we made
Holding fast to the hope
So when we stand in the line of wrath
The true and righteous will know

See the scorn inside my eyes

Keeping sight of the vow we made
Holding fast to the hope
So when we stand in the line of wrath
The true and righteous will know

PS3 Outsells Xbox 360 Worldwide In Total Sales (January 2013)

Xbox 360 vs PS3

Battle of the titans! Who will win it all?

It’s official. The PlayStation 3 has outsold the Xbox 360 in lifetime sales, surpassing it for the first time over this past 2012 holiday season. PS3 @ 77 million woldwide sales, Xbox 360 76 million woldwide sales.

Those are worldwide sales however, and the lead is only slight, whereas the Xbox 360 is largely perceived to have WON the current-generation console war, with a huge sales lead in North America that the PS3 has never been able to catch (of course, the Xbox 360 was released in 2005, getting a year jump start on Sony’s competing console).

Typically the sales leader in North America is considered to be the console to win the war, as the United States is the most important and biggest territory in terms of sales and audience in the Western world. So the console that wins America, is often declared the winner of the war.

This new sales data was revealed in a new report by IDC on the videogame industry (Worldwide Video Game and Entertainment Console Hardware and Packaged Software 2012-2016), as reported by Game Informer.

Metal Song of the Day – Fiction Kingdom (Demon Hunter Month. Lyrics Included) From Storm the Gates of Hell Album (2007)

Fiction Kingdom by Demon Hunter is a song from their fourth full-length album, 2007’s Storm the Gates of Hell.

Fiction Kingdom (what an awesome title, eh) brings the Demon Hunter sound more in line with that of Triptych or Summer of Darkness than the majority of Storm the Gates’ tunes, and was originally called “Black Reign” before the band had to change the title once Ozzy Osbourne used the name “Black Rain” as the title of his 9th studio album. The lyrics and overall concept of Fiction Kingdom are amazing, and the writing as always is top-notch. I love how heavy this song is and the high-pitched instrumental section near the end is awesome.

Lyrics:

Dig yourself a shallow grave
Your life is not the legacy of honor you would dig six feet for
Broken is the way you came
And broken is the way that you will leave when everything is paid for
Make another hollow claim
A fable of regurgitated nothing we could tear wide open
False in every possible way
Your god is still the powerless creation you will lose your hope in

Now you bleed for the lord of hate
That you stole from the pages of truth
And separate the product from its own account
To birth a gospel of inferior view

Black reign is all in dream
Your truth is absolution’s end

Dead is the way you stake your life on
The oblivious belief
What a waste to sell your spirit for

Lay upon the bed you made
Your word is not the legacy of truth that you would bet your life on
Stand to face a mirrored blade
And tremble in the wake of your conviction as you put your life on

Now you bleed for the lord of hate that you stole from the pages of truth
And separate the product from its own account, to birth a gospel of inferior view

Black reign is all in dream
Your truth is absolution’s end

Dead is the way you stake your life on
The oblivious belief
What a waste to sell your spirit for

This war is a page unwritten
But we know how it ends
Take a step to the throne
Convicted
Choking back your amends

CRY THE DEATH OF FICTION KINGDOM

Your truth is absolution’s end

Dead is the way you stake your life on
The oblivious belief
What a waste to sell your spirit for

President Obama Afghanistan Transition Press Conference With Hamid Karzai January 11 2013

President Obama Shakes Hands With Afghan President Karzai January 2013

Discussing the transition to full Afghan sovereignty.

President Obama met with Afghan leader President Hamid Karzai to discuss the transition from American-led and coalition military forces to that of the Afghan Military and Government, Police, etc. taking full responsibility for their own country of Afghanistan. A transition that will take place, as President Obama has promised, at the end of 2014, or the start of 2015. At which point America will shift to an advisory, assist and training role in the country.

It has been a long road full of hardship, death, triumph, success, failure, peace and war, and now the end of America’s 2nd longest war (11.3 years so far, the longest is the Vietnam War at 19.4 years) and our main mission objectives, have been completed and it is time to exit. I don’t think anyone truly wants to stay in the war much longer, but we have made many strides in the country at deep sacrifice for both, while also improving many aspects for both, and eliminating many threats. It will be good to finally have the war over. I supported the war then, support it now, and do not regret the war. As the Middle East has seen with all of the recent developments and turmoil throughout, it seems impossible for the Middle East to govern itself without asssistance from other countries. We have assisted, and hopefully the Afghans will be able to do the rest and oust it of extremist elements. Time will tell.

Song of the Day – We Don’t Care (Demon Hunter Month. Lyrics Included) From True Defiance Album (2012)

We Don’t Care by Demon Hunter is a song from their sixth full-length album, 2012’s True Defiance.

We Don’t Care is a standout song from True Defiance, an album which features more songs that I don’t care too much for (pun not intended) than any other Demon Hunter album, but that still features a number of outstanding songs. I love the lyrics in this song, in particularly the first verse. I also love the Summer of Darkness style scream that caps off the song, and the chorus in this song is great.

Lyrics:

This is the end of everything
A degenerate culture’s elegy
Now the reaper is waiting at the door
Drunk on our blood and craving more

This is the sound of a thousand holy feet
Treading on a soon forgotten grave
This is a life-long declaration of war
No sacrifice in vain
Let them remember the name

Feels like we’ve run out of air
They tear the breath out from our lungs
And we don’t care
Feels like we’ve run out of air
Damnation passed down to our sons
And we don’t care

Witness the end of apathy
We have embraced our suffering
Will the pain illuminate our fall?
Or will we see the blame at all?

No compromise to end
We’ll wash the blood off from our hands
And fight again

Hitman HD Trilogy Collector’s Edition Release Date Is January 29 2013. Includes Artbook of Classic Moments (Xbox 360, PS3) And Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman: Contracts And Hitman: Blood Money Games

Hitman HD Trilogy Collector's Edition With Artbook (Xbox 360, PS3)

The Collector’s Edition of Hitman HD Trilogy contains a snazzy artbook.

The previous three Hitman games on one disc in Hitman HD Trilogy, which releases January 29th 2013 in both standard and Collector’s Edition versions for $40 (both versions!). Included is Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman: Contracts and Hitman: Blood Money, the three previous Hitman games before the latest, Hitman: Absolution. This set also contains the previously pre-order bonus-exclusive Hitman: Sniper Challenge that was previously included with Hitman Absolution for those who pre-ordered that game. Hitman HD Trilogy will be released on February 1st 2013 in Europe.

Sadly though, this set does NOT include the original and first Hitman game, entitled “Hitman: Agent 47”, first released in 2000. A game that has never been released for any system other than PC (a modern version is available for Steam and Gog.com however) and this set mimics the PlayStation 2 and PC “Hitman Trilogy/Hitman Triple Pack” released in 2007, which contained these exact same games. New to this set are high-definition graphic overhauls for all three games and all-new Achievements and Trophies to earn.

Hitman HD Trilogy Artbook

22 Hitman artist interpretations included in the HD Trilogy artbook.

However this is the first time that these classic games are being re-released for the current-generation systems on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Additionally, the Collector’s Edition version of Hitman HD Trilogy will include an exclusively hardcover artbook that includes 22 artistic reinterpretation of classic moments from throughout the Hitman series!

To celebrate, Square Enix also announced http://www.WhoIs47.com, a website where fans can buy one-of-a-kind autographed lithographs that will be showcased in the limited edition for $47 each. The site also serves as the hub for an art contest where fans are encouraged to submit their own art paying homage to their favorite moments from Hitman Contracts, Hitman 2: Silent Assassin and Hitman Blood Money. The grand prize winner will receive a custom Agent 47 Xbox 360 system from Microsoft.

Fire Emblem: Awakening (Release Date February 4 2013) 3DS Special Edition System Bundle With Branded Blue-Colored 3DS. Game Comes Pre-Installed (No Hardcopy Included)

The official 3DS Fire Emblem: Awakening Special Edition System Bundle

A non-XL 3DS Fire Emblem: Awakening Blue-embossed system bundle (Price likely $180) will release on February 4th 2013 alongside the launch of the highly anticipated 11th game in the Fire Emblem strategy RPG series.

The system is a blue-colored 3DS with a very cool, exclusive Fire Emblem: Awakening logo embossed on the front of the system. The game, Fire Emblem: Awakening, will come pre-installed on the system, which means it’s a digital title.

This means you won’t get any physical box or instruction manual with the game, which might be a tough sell for those who prefer to own hardcopies as opposed to digital. The 3DS is also a regular, small 3DS (original version) and not the much larger 3DS XL, which also may disappoint some. Others may be disappointed that the color is not a new color, although it looks like it may be a different shade of blue than the “Aqua Blue” system.

This news was confirmed by Nintendo of America’s official Twitter following a full-page reveal in Game Informer. Official pricing has not been announced, but other similar bundles sell for $180. A regular 3DS (with no game included) typically sells for $170, whereas the 3DS XL sells for $200. The bundle will be released in USA and Canada, no word on whether or not it will hit other territories.

If you are unfamiliar with the long-running (since 1990… in Japan anyway, the first Western Fire Emblem didn’t release until 2003 for Game Boy Advance, titled “Fire Emblem”, even though it was the 7th main game in the series) Fire Emblem strategy RPG games, check out the trailer for Fire Emblem Awakening above.

Fire Emblem: Awakening will mark the first Nintendo-developed game to ever offer paid Downloadable Content (DLC has been featured in the Professor Layton games, New Super Mario Bros. 2 and other games, but were offered free). Something that has become standard on other systems and with games throughout the industry, but never yet offered by Nintendo themselves. Until now.
